What made her mental condition worse was the lack of understanding from her spouse. According to the actress, her husband did not understand the feelings and pressure she was facing. That led to a growing gap between the couple.

"He doesn't understand what I'm going through. Without understanding, there can be no real empathy. The more I wait for him to share, the more disappointed I am when there is nothing. That dependence makes me more depressed. I am alone in my exhaustion," Lan Phuong confided.

She said she tried her best to save the relationship. There was a time when she took the initiative to bring her two children to Da Nang to live with her husband in the hope of sharing the burden. But the results were not as expected. "I quit all my work in Hanoi and brought my two children to live with him for a few months. But he was busy with work, from morning to night I was the only one taking care of my two children and doing what I could. My depression did not decrease at all, even though I still took care of my children."

Previously, in an interview with Thanh Nien newspaper in 2022, Lan Phuong shared that her husband wanted to have a wedding but she was not very interested. According to the actress, having a marriage certificate is enough to legally bind them, while a wedding is just a formality for her.
