Ambulance making strange noise on the road: Police investigate

Recently, a clip was shared on social media recording the image of an ambulance with its lights on driving on the road in Ho Chi Minh City.

In the busy traffic, the ambulance carrying the patient to the emergency room was trying to weave its way through the road. The above sound was repeated over and over again.

It is unclear whether the clip above is a real ambulance siren or just a sound clip inserted into the clip. However, after being posted on social networks, the video quickly attracted the attention of the online community.

While some people believe that using a modified siren is a way to encourage patients during their journey to the hospital, many others believe that using such a siren by an ambulance violates traffic safety laws.

Regarding the above clip, sharing with Dan Tri newspaper, a leader of the Traffic Police Team in Ho Chi Minh City said that after watching the clip of an ambulance running with the sound "keep it up, keep it up, almost there, almost there...", he suspected that this was a edited clip.

Someone used a sound clip to add to a clip of an ambulance moving and posted it on social media to attract interactions. According to this person, if the ambulance above uses this sound clip instead of a priority siren to move on the road, it is a violation of traffic laws. When the traffic police patrol, if they discover this case, they will make a record and handle it according to regulations.

Previously, in Nghe An, a male driver was fined 2.5 million VND for driving an ambulance on National Highway 1 without carrying or picking up patients, but continuously honking the siren and flashing the emergency lights.

The decision to fine a driver from Dien Phu commune, Dien Chau district for using a priority signal device in violation of regulations was issued by the Traffic Police Department, Nghe An Provincial Police on February 18.

At around 8:00 p.m. on February 12, while patrolling and controlling National Highway 1 through Dien Chau district, a working group from the Dien Chau Traffic Police Station, under the Traffic Police Department of Nghe An Province, discovered a male ambulance driver driving at high speed, abusing the priority light signal, and continuously flashing the lights.

Signaling the vehicle to stop for administrative inspection, the working group noted that the ambulance was not carrying a patient. The driver could not prove that he was on an emergency mission. The driver stated that he had previously transported the patient to the hospital, and on the way back "thought he still had priority signals on", not knowing that it was a violation.

According to regulations, ambulances are only given priority when transporting or picking up emergency patients; when on duty, they must have siren, flag, and light signals; are not restricted in speed; are allowed to enter the opposite direction, other roads are passable, even when there is a red light and must only follow the instructions of traffic controllers.

Decree 168/2024 stipulates a fine of 2-3 million VND for drivers of priority vehicles who install or use priority signaling devices in violation of regulations, use priority signaling devices without a license issued by a competent authority, or have a license that is no longer valid.

Another case of an ambulance in Nghe An, on the morning of February 10, social networks spread a video clip recording the scene of an ambulance moving on Lenin Avenue, from the center of Vinh City to Vinh Airport. When reaching the intersection between Lenin Avenue and Pham Dinh Toai Street, the ambulance continuously turned on its siren and priority lights to ask for the right of way.

However, because the traffic light was red and there were many vehicles in front, including a black Fortuner, the ambulance could not continue moving. Only when the traffic light turned green and the Fortuner moved, could the ambulance continue.

The video has received mixed reactions from the online community. Some people believe that the driver of the black car may have been afraid of being fined for running a red light, so he did not yield to the ambulance.
