Hua Kim Tuyen: "Hit maker" of Vietnamese music and noisy related to plagiarism

Hua Kim Tuyen is a singer, songwriter, and music producer, born in 1995 in Ho Chi Minh City. Before pursuing a professional career in music, he studied at Van Lang University majoring in Journalism and Communication. Besides studying, Tuyen used to work as an entertainment reporter for the newspaper Hua Pupil. Sharing about the choice of song to participate in Sing my song, Hua Kim Tuyen said that he originally intended to take the song "The bridge by the river" to participate in the contest. But then he decided to take a risk, using his self-composed song "Wasted Love" to make a breakthrough for his competition.

The song "Wasted Love" was first composed by Hua Minh Tuyen in 2014. Initially, this young musician only sketched loose melodies on paper, but after participating in this program, he decided to revise this song and thus "Wasted Love" was born.

Hua Kim Tuyen's music has created a new color for the Vietnamese music market. Hua Kim Tuyen had the opportunity to collaborate with singer Toc Tien to create the hit "Today I'm So Lonely", marking his turning point in his artistic path. He also has the opportunity to create hits when collaborating with famous singers such as: One Day or a Hundred Years (Van Mai Huong), Do people love me (Truc Nhan), Have we forgotten each other (Juun Dang Dung), ...

From a journalism student, Hua Kim Tuyen switched to writing music and became the second hottest musician in VPop in just 5 years.

He is also the one behind many hit songs such as Mother's Dream, I don't love you so much, One day I forgot everything, in the middle of East-West Avenue, not forgotten my ex, ... At one point, 6 songs he participated in producing reached the trending list on YouTube Vietnam. But it wasn't until the official debut with Saigon Heartbreak Too featuring young singer Hoang Duyen at the end of March that the audience really got to know this singer more.

In 2017, Hua Kim Tuyen "embarked" on the main projects and was responsible for producing music for ST. 319 Entertainment's products, outstanding songs such as: Love is not love, Ex's Hate Me (Part 2), MAMA BOY and Amee's baby. Besides, he was also sent works by other famous singers such as: Proposing marriage (Van Mai Huong), Who needs anyone (Bao Anh), Giving him to her (Huong Giang Idol).

The colors in Kim Tuyen's music are always diverse and modern, catching up with the trend of the Vietnamese music market, from Ballad to EDM, in each lyric and melody there is newness.

However, on the path of fame that he is walking, Hua Kim Tuyen once frankly told the media: "I am often accused of plagiarism."

In an interview about the question of plagiarism, musician Hua Kim Tuyen said that the story of artists being scrutinized, caught and attributed to plagiarism is now "a type of online culture". "I think Vietnamese audiences do not understand and distinguish concepts in music. What people call plagiarism, is mainly a harmonic analogy. When they see the duplication of harmony, they assume it is plagiarism, copying ideas. But in fact, this is normal, because the easy-to-listen harmonies, used a lot in Pop music, only have a certain number. If analyzing the problem of plagiarism, many factors must be considered, from harmony, melody, rhythm, orchestration to genre.

Every time I get into that argument, I patiently explain, and slowly everyone will understand. What people don't know that we know, we should have a universal responsibility," Hua Kim Tuyen said.

The 9x musician has also disputed the claim that he writes easy music, despite everything to make money. "I make music for singers for no amount of money. I have a house, I have a car, I have the basics of my life since last year. I feel like enough is enough, so now I do everything for my hobby."

As a "horizontal hand" using his emotions and thoughts as "material" to shape each song. Perhaps that is the answer to the question "why is Hua Kim Tuyen's music always unique and new?" 5 years is a journey that can be said to be not too long, but to say it is short is not really. During that, the time for Hua Kim Tuyen to cultivate and realize his own direction is what the musician has the most expensive mind.

Hua Kim Tuyen once said, "The law of life is that as we get older, our creative energy also ages. Everybody gets to that stage." So his next wish is to be able to transmit his "creative energy" to the next generation.
