Disgruntled with this decision, the female director sued the producer, because she was also the writer of the script for "I am a star". At the end of October, director Hong Ngan withdrew his lawsuit because he had reached an agreement with the producer during the mediation session.

In 2009, singer Chuong Dan (who won the 4th prize of the Voice of Television in 2007) sued director Hong Ngan. According to the lawsuit filed in the People's Court of District 8 by Chuong Dan, she said that she was humiliated by the female director when participating in the movie "The Reluctant Girl".

At the height of the conflict, Zhang Dan's role was replaced without explanation. Along with the lawsuit against director Hong Ngan, singer Chuong Dan asked for a contract compensation fee of 50% of the film contract (about 75 million VND) along with an official apology from director Hong Ngan.

As for director Hong Ngan, she confirmed that she would sue against Zhang Dan for slander. "With the insulting words that Zhang Dan attributed to me in her lawsuit, I will sue against it," director Hong Ngan once said.

The female director also said that the matter of replacing someone's role is not under the director's authority but by the producer's decision.

Director Hong Ngan also expressed that, although she suffered a lot of disapproval, she was never bored with her job but just... bored with people. After those two noisy incidents, director Hong Ngan quietly got married and settled in the US. I love my baby so much but the doctor said my illness is too severe and cannot be treated. He drove me from hospital to hospital. The doctor told me not to have children because the medicine that I took greatly affects the birth of a child, possibly causing the baby to be teratogenic.

When I returned to Vietnam and started my career again, he blamed me: why do you say you don't work anymore, what do you do now when you return to Vietnam, but the job is already in my blood, I don't know what to do if I don't work. Director Hong Ngan expressed: "I'm gentle and cute with my husband. He won't find anyone better than me in this. I'm sure because I love beauty. It's not personality, it's strong. fierce. But my weakness is that I don't know how to cook, almost eat at restaurants. He is the one who cooks for me."
