"The Generation of Miracles" had early screenings but modest box office revenue. On social media, the film received many angry reactions and sparked controversy regarding its content and message delivery.
Director Hoang Nam's film "The Generation of Miracles" officially premieres on December 12th, but starting on the evening of December 10th, the film crew organized special screenings for the press and media, and began selling some tickets early to the general public. This was a preparatory step to generate attention before the film's official release.
According to statistics from Box Office Vietnam, the initial performance of "The Generation of Miracles" has not been particularly outstanding. By the end of the early screenings, the film had only grossed over 135 million VND. On December 11th alone, the film's revenue was less than 50 million VND, not enough to break into the top 5 at the box office that day. This is a rather modest result compared to the expectations of both the audience and the producers.
On social media, audience reactions to the film are also clearly mixed. Many posts about "The Generation of Miracles" received a high number of angry reactions, while the number of positive comments remained quite limited. Some viewers argued that the film's plot was unrealistic, with many clichéd and illogical details, making the viewing experience unconvincing.
In addition, some opinions suggest that while the film attempts to convey many meaningful messages, its execution lacks substance, making it difficult for viewers to fully grasp the director's intended message. Furthermore, many comments emphasize the blatant inclusion of advertisements, which detracts from the overall viewing experience.
Nevertheless, the fact that the film received a large amount of outrage upon its release has sparked much discussion. Many viewers are questioning whether "The Generation of Miracles" is being smeared or if this is simply a publicity stunt by the film crew. Currently, there is no clear evidence that the negative comments are being intentionally manipulated.
"The Generation of Miracles" is the next film project directed by Hoang Nam after the success of "The Ghost Lamp," released earlier this year. The film tells the story of Tien (played by Tran Tu), a young man passionate about technology and puzzle games since childhood. After the death of his parents, Tien grew up under the care and guidance of his grandmother (People's Artist Thanh Hoa). He harbors the ambition to create a Vietnamese video game that can reach international standards.
Despite being constantly ridiculed by his aunt (played by Ha Huong) for "spending all day glued to video games," Tien remains steadfast in pursuing his dream. Along this journey, he receives encouragement from his grandmother and enthusiastic support from young friends who share the same passion. The film portrays his journey from small, challenging steps to maturity and relentless effort to turn his dream into reality.
Currently, despite initial box office revenue falling short of expectations and audience reaction remaining controversial, "The Generation of Miracles" continues to attract public attention thanks to the director's reputation, the promising young cast, and its technology-related theme – a rare area explored in Vietnamese cinema. Whether the film can overcome its challenging start will depend on continued audience engagement.
With a relatable theme that hasn't been explored much in Vietnamese literature, "The Generation of Miracles" promises to spark lively discussions about the younger generation, their passion, and their perseverance in realizing their dreams.
