Hanoi: Apartment fire in 9-storey mini apartment, 30 people flee

Spotting a burning smell with black smoke at a mini-apartment building, residents alerted local authorities. The Fire Department said it was more likely that the fire started in an old washing machine left on the balcony.

In the morning of June 5, people in Dinh Thon lane, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi, panicked to find smoke coming from an apartment in a mini apartment in the area.

According to reports from the authorities, the fire occurred at the multi-apartment house (mini apartment), address No. 26, Lane 50 Dinh Village, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi. The scale of 9 floors, 1 tum, in the house has 58 apartments with 154 people living.

As soon as receiving the fire alarm, the City Police dispatched 2 fire engines of the Fire and Rescue Team of Area 2 - Fire and Rescue Police Department and CNCH and 1 command vehicle, 1 fire engine of the Fire Protection Police Team and CNCH - Nam Tu Liem District Police and 20 soldiers to the scene of the fire.

When the Fire and Rescue Police arrived, residents used on-site fire extinguishing vehicles to extinguish the fire and thankfully there was no loss of life, the fire only damaged 1 old washing machine and caused partial heat radiation of the apartment.

The house where the fire occurred has a scale of 9 floors and 1 roof, construction area of 364m2. The house is built in the style of a tube house with a façade that is also an emergency exit, three sides bordering the house. The 1st floor of the house is a parking area, from the 2nd floor to the 9th floor each floor has 7-8 apartments, a total of 58 rooms with 154 people living. The developer after construction sold out to the people. The house has equipped an indoor fire extinguishing system connected to a roof tank and a portable fire extinguisher.

At the time of the fire, there were about 30 people in the mini-apartment who escaped to the 1st floor. The apartment where the fire occurred was unoccupied, householders broke down the door of the original firefighting organization. It was initially determined that the fire occurred at the balcony location of apartment 906, 9th floor.

Also according to the report, this is a project that has been licensed by the authorities for individual housing, with a scale of 6 floors and 1 basement, but the landlord has built more than 3 floors, 1 tum.

On September 26, 2023, the Fire Protection Police of Nam Tu Liem District in collaboration with the Urban Management Department, People's Committee, Police of My Dinh 2 Ward, Nam Tu Liem Power Company will inspect and instruct knowledge and skills on fire prevention and fighting and escape as well as the equipping of tools, basic and necessary means in fire protection and escape when a fire occurs for representatives of the Head of the Municipal Committee and residents living in the house.

The Fire and Rescue Police force actively posted panels and scanned QR codes to propagate fire protection on the floors of the building.

On May 19, a 9-storey mini apartment on Quan Nhan Street (Nhan Chinh Ward, Thanh Xuan District) also encountered a fire, causing many people inside to rush to escape.

Notably, the report of the Ho Chi Minh City Police. Hanoi shows that in the city there exist 398 mini apartments with high fire and explosion risk.

In the coming time, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Hanoi will install fire management and warning applications for about 2,000 mini apartments in the area to ensure fire prevention, fighting and rescue in the area.
