The family of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh was in chaos when the court ruled on the funeral copyright lawsuit.

The court has just decided to cancel the contract between BH Media and Vu Linh's nephew, artist Hong Phuong, regarding reporting and filming images at the funeral of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh more than a year ago.

According to the lawsuit, Mr. Vo Van Ngoan (late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh) passed away on March 5, 2023. During his lifetime, he had no wife (according to his single certificate) and had only one child, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Loan (according to his birth certificate).

On the last night of the funeral of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh, Ms. Loan learned that the entire farewell program of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh was broadcast live on BH Media's media channel. According to Ms. Loan, she is the only daughter, the first heir recognized by law of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh; the establishment and implementation of civil relations related to the personal rights of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh must have her consent. The fact that Ms. Phuong and BH Media signed the contract without her consent has affected her legal rights and interests.

The plaintiff requests the cancellation of the contract signed between Ms. Phuong and BH Media; requests that BH Media and Ms. Phuong jointly return more than 142 million VND in profits from the contract. Requests that BH Media remove images and videos of events arising from the contract related to the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh. Recognizes Ms. Loan as the person with the right to manage all personal rights and personal values of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh.

BH Media stated that in the rush of the funeral, the company could not know who the family of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh would sign the documents. The family must be responsible for discussing and sending a representative to do the work.

According to the panel of judges, during the process of resolving the case, the court requested Ms. Phuong to provide a power of attorney from the legal heir of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh for her to sign, and documents showing that the adults in the family had agreed to let her sign the contract with BH Media. However, at the time of the trial, Ms. Phuong was unable to provide it.
