G-Dragon shocked fans when he suddenly canceled his concert in Bangkok just a few weeks before the show. He cited inclement weather, but was this really the reason why the "King of Kpop" withdrew at the last minute?
On July 10, G-Dragon fans across Asia were shocked by the news. The Ãbermensch concert scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand on August 2 was officially canceled. It is worth mentioning that just a few days before, the "Kpop King"'s team had changed the schedule several times, causing fans to be confused and raise a series of questions about the real reason behind this decision.
By the afternoon of July 11, Korean media, specifically Newsen, officially announced the reason why G-Dragon made the sensational decision: Extreme temperatures and concerns about the health and safety of fans were the main reasons for the concert being canceled at the last minute.
In a statement from management company Galaxy Corporation , G-Dragon's team stated: "We are sorry that the performance was canceled due to uncontrollable weather conditions. Bangkok is experiencing an unusual heat wave, causing an increase in heat stroke cases, and this cannot be taken lightly."
The original venue, Rajamangala Stadium, is an outdoor stadium with a capacity of over 50,000 people. This makes the health risk even greater, especially in the current harsh weather conditions. Canceling the concert not only demonstrates the professionalism of the crew but also shows that G-Dragon puts the lives and safety of his fans first.
Galaxy Corporation added: "We apologize for the inconvenience. An alternative venue and time will be announced after careful consideration to ensure the highest level of safety."
Some fans were confused because many international concerts were held in Thailand even during the dry season. A typical example was the concert of Kpop group ENHYPEN at Rajamangala Stadium on June 21.
However, experts say that this year's weather conditions are much more extreme. Temperatures in Bangkok have exceeded 39-40 degrees Celsius in recent days, with high humidity and stuffy air, increasing the risk of heatstroke, especially with a large audience gathered for a long time. A small risk can lead to serious consequences, which G-Dragon does not allow to happen at his concert.
Although regrettable, the reaction of the international fan community, especially VIPs in Thailand, mostly expressed agreement and support for the male artist's responsible decision. Many people said: "G-Dragon has never considered a concert simply as a performance, but as a sacred moment connecting with fans, so he would never let risks ruin that."
In particular, Galaxy Corporation's announcement emphasized that: "The artists and crew are working tirelessly to bring a worthy stage and turn the concert into an unforgettable memory for fans."
Not only G-Dragon, other K-pop artists are also changing their performance strategies in Thailand due to the harsh weather. LE SSERAFIM chose to hold the "EASY CRAZY HOT" concert at the indoor Thunder Dome on August 10, with a smaller but better-controlled capacity of about 3,500 people.
After the third phase of the Ãbermensch concert series, the G-Dragon fan community in Vietnam is anxiously awaiting confirmation that Vietnam may be chosen as the next destination. If the Bangkok concert is re-organized at a safer location, the possibility of G-Dragon expanding the tour to other Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, is completely possible.
However, Vietnamese fans need to be alert. Currently, there is no official information from G-Dragon or Galaxy Corporation about the concert in Vietnam. Some leaked information circulating on social networks could be completely fake for profit. The Vietnamese VIP community should wait for the official announcement to avoid being scammed or losing money.
Canceling a concert is never easy, especially for an artist of G-Dragon's caliber. The Ãbermensch concert in Bangkok may be postponed, but that does not mean the end but rather a necessary pause to prepare for a more perfect, safer and memorable concert. For G-Dragon, it is always worth the wait.
