The house was dilapidated and degraded, so I worked as a hired laborer for sand barges, saved up a little money, borrowed more from relatives, and built a house. This house was started right at the time Van Hau was born. At that time, my wife was holding a baby just a few days old, lying under the old house, where a house was built on this side.

Since then, the house has been attached to my family, full of memories. This is where I witnessed Van Hau learn to walk and is also where he first played football. The large yard in front of the house is always turned into a football field. I wandered around playing all day out there.

Later, when the children grew up and had better conditions, they intended to demolish the old house and rebuild it to make it more spacious, but Mr. Thang and his wife refused. The house is the same age as Van Hau, I want to keep it as a souvenir, never destroy it. The children grow up, grow up, and then live on their own. There's only the couple left at home, we're used to living a simple life. A house like this is too spacious.

Two years ago, with my children's constant encouragement, my husband and I repainted it, reinforced damaged areas, replaced the table and chairs, and designed a medal display cabinet for our children. Hau bought the TV for his parents. When my child plays in Vietnam and can't go to the field to cheer for him, my husband and I watch it on TV."

Mr. Thang further shared that when his son went to compete and how much he received, he never asked. "That is the child's right to privacy. My husband and I still grow rice and raise livestock ourselves, and our life is considered enough. When the children buy things for the family, they think for themselves. I don't ask for anything. The simpler I think, the more comfortable I am. My two children are also filial and responsible. Since growing up, they have never let their parents lack anything."
