Director Nguyen Quang Dung has officially closed his controversial job posting for a personal assistant, after receiving over 100 applications. He will respond to applicants and open to opportunities for future project collaborations.
In recent days, news of director Nguyen Quang Dung posting a job advertisement for a personal assistant has attracted significant attention on social media, sparking lively debate. Recently, the director officially announced that he will close the job posting after a few days of receiving applications.
According to reports, over 100 people have applied in a short period, and this number continues to grow. However, since he currently only has two projects underway, each capable of accommodating only one assistant, recruiting more is no longer feasible. Therefore, Nguyen Quang Dung decided to halt recruitment to focus on managing the work for the two existing positions.
Regarding the submitted applications, the director said he would respond soon via email and invite some suitable candidates to meet in person to discuss the job details and career perspectives after the New Year. Those not selected were encouraged to continue monitoring and participating in other projects in the future, as the film market still offers many career opportunities for young people.
In particular, for students who have not yet graduated from university, the director advises them to complete their studies or seek practical experience during the summer break to gain experience, instead of rushing into jobs that are not suitable.
Sharing his reasons for publicly posting the message, Nguyen Quang Dung frankly stated that handling over 100 applications simultaneously is impossible for him and his current assistant, so making the announcement publicly was necessary, even though he knew it would cause controversy. The director also expressed surprise that the story spread beyond his expectations.
"Over the past few days, I've been a little surprised that things have gone further than I expected. I didn't realize Facebook had so much attention, and the story suddenly spiraled out of control. To those who understand and support me, I hope you will be cautious when sharing, as many people are engaging in debates, some even using offensive language. I apologize if I've bothered anyone; I'm used to it, but I'm still very reluctant to inconvenience others."
Previously, the recruitment of an unpaid personal assistant had sparked controversy. According to the director, the job is primarily part-time, focusing on researching, compiling, and organizing documents. The standout benefit for candidates is the opportunity to work with a professional and reputable team in the film industry, thereby learning and developing their professional skills.
Despite receiving mixed reactions, particularly on the Threads platform, the post was supported by many colleagues in the industry, including directors, producers, and artists. They believe it's a valuable opportunity for young people to experience the real world and enhance their work experience in the entertainment industry, rather than just focusing on salary and benefits.
Nguyen Quang Dung hopes that with the decision to close recruitment, things will return to normal. He also hopes that young people will view career opportunities comprehensively, considering the benefits of learning, skill development, and a professional working environment, instead of just focusing on initial financial gains.
This further highlights the controversy surrounding unpaid work opportunities in the Vietnamese entertainment industry. However, from Nguyen Quang Dung's perspective, this is a way to share practical experience and create a bridge between professionals and young people passionate about filmmaking.
