Just 40 hours after committing a shocking gold shop robbery in Ninh Binh, two young men – one of whom was a university student – were apprehended by law enforcement while hiding in another province.
The robbery was "like an action movie" on the eve of Tet.
At approximately 10 PM on January 23, 2026, as the streets began to desert, a brazen crime unfolded at the Hong Ngat gold shop (Residential Area No. 4, Duy Tien Ward, Ninh Binh Province). Two masked strangers, riding a motorcycle without license plates, suddenly approached the shop.
Without a moment's hesitation, they stormed inside armed with machetes, hammers, and glass bottles. After threatening the shop owner with their weapons, the perpetrators frantically smashed the display cases, looted a large quantity of gold jewelry, and quickly sped away into the night. Their recklessness and organized nature shocked the public.
The relentless pursuit by the police force.
Upon receiving the report, the Ninh Binh Provincial Police leadership immediately arrived at the scene to direct the investigation. Determined not to let the criminals get away with it, the professional forces of the Provincial Police, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security and local police forces, established a rigorous crackdown network.
Through sharp investigative techniques, in just 40 hours—less than two days and nights—the true identities of the perpetrators were revealed. Two suspects were apprehended while hiding in Bac Ninh and Hung Yen, much to their own surprise.
Portraits of the two perpetrators: A factory worker, a university student.
The identities of the two suspects have been confirmed as: Trieu Van Nam (born in 2004, from Thai Nguyen province): Currently a worker in Bac Ninh province. Dao Nguyen Bach (born in 2006, from Hung Yen province): Currently a university student.
At the police station, both confessed that due to debt and lack of money, they had "connected" through the social media platform Facebook. After discussing their plan, they chose Ninh Binh as their crime scene. On the afternoon of January 23rd, they rode their motorbike to Duy Tien ward to "hunt for prey" and carried out the robbery that same night. After stealing the gold, they divided the stolen goods and fled back to their rented room to hide them, confidently believing their plan was perfect.
"Huge" amount of evidence and a gun found in the rented room.
The police seized all the "loot," including 23 bracelets, 23 necklaces, 38 earrings, and 20 gold rings. In addition, the motorbike and the weapon used in the crime were also confiscated.
Even more frightening, during a search of student Dao Nguyen Bach's residence, authorities discovered a plastic pellet gun. Bach confessed that this was his "tool of the trade" that he had recently purchased to prepare for future robberies. If they hadn't been stopped in time, it's unknown how many more victims this pair would have targeted.
A warning for young people.
The Ninh Binh Provincial Police are currently expanding their investigation to strictly prosecute the suspects according to regulations. This case serves as a valuable lesson for young people who are lazy but want quick money through criminal means.
Especially during the period leading up to the Lunar New Year, gold and silver businesses need to increase vigilance and install modern security systems to protect their assets. No matter how sophisticated, any illegal activity cannot escape the strict enforcement of the law.
