Recently, people couldn't help but be bewildered by Dan Truong's stiff image when releasing the MV Em Oh wallet thanks to the application of AI technology. I thought this creativity would make the MV a breakthrough, but in reality it has side effects
After nearly a day of launch, the product recorded more than 110 thousand views on the world's most chilling video platform. However, when the MV was released, it encountered many debates in terms of image and context. "The character's face is stiff, the eyes have no soul", "The AI image is not as beautiful as Mr. Dan Truong in real life", "Looking at Mr. Bo is too different, I don't recognize it", "What is the background of the MV is the West but there are terraced fields and mountains overlapping?", "The lyrics and images and scenery in the MV do not match". are the responses from viewers.
According to Dan Truong, this is his first experiment when creating images in folk MVs from artificial intelligence technology. The crew took two months to make, going through many edits.
"The most difficult step when making MVs is using AI to create motion, because current tools only support creating 4-second videos at a time. To create a short 4-second clip, we need to use between 4 and 16 images. My crew and I used different AI tools to create more than 600 images," the singer said.
From the controversy surrounding the content of the MV, the audience questioned whether Dan Truong was abusing AI technology while the product quality was not guaranteed and also inappropriate. When watching the MV above, some viewers even commented: "The artist is now lazy to act in his own MV".
The application of AI to the implementation of music products is no longer strange in the world and in Vietnam. In 2023, founder Bobo Dang also released Ann, the first virtual singer in Vietnam with a debut product. But the MV encountered many mixed opinions, especially the vocals. Products with low views.
The majority of the audience thinks that they will not follow, do not spend m.oney to pursue a virtual idol. Besides, Bobo Dang also said: "The nature of the entertainment industry is that controversy helps the media to be better. A product launched will have mixed opinions, which is inevitable. We anticipated the controversy and risks, which were within acceptable limits. If I was afraid of controversy, I would not have pursued this project."
Not only in Vietnam, but in the international music arena, the emergence of AI in video production is truly groundbreaking, opening up a world full of creative possibilities for both artists and music producers. Even AI technology is quite successfully applied in neighboring entertainment industries, especially Korea.
Through AI technology, virtual singers and music groups were born. Plave is a 5-member virtual music group in South Korea that not only dominates the music charts but also wins on weekend shows. According to The Korea Herald, in just one week, Plave has sold more than 200,000 copies of the new album.
Industry giants such as Hybe and SM Entertainment are jumping headfirst into this technological revolution. But the development of AI in music production is not without controversy. The reason is that stability in AI-generated videos is limited and the emotional factor is difficult to guarantee.
The RIIZE team released the AI Generated Visualizer version of the single Impossible 2 months ago. Comments on the video make it clear that fans are not impressed with this choice of RIIZE.
"It's not too late to delete this," one viewer wrote. "With all due respect for RIIZE, I hope this never happens again," "This is really the most embarrassing thing I've seen this year," "So AI finally reached Kpop. It won't take long for these greedy companies to start laying off employees and relying entirely on AI for music videos and many other things," another viewer commented.
From the above controversy and the case of Dan Truong, it can be seen that AI-generated music videos have interesting potential, but there are still some challenges. For example, AI cannot easily and independently create music videos. The human element still plays an essential role in creating a good story and emotions.
This emphasizes the importance of human creativity in the product making process. That is, besides applying AI technology to music and images, the creativity of artists is still a core factor. A really quality product from music to image will be easier to conquer the audience than the technology factor.
AI can certainly help artists create unique images and music, but human creativity is still the driving force behind great music and stories. By combining human creativity with AI technology, artists can create powerful visuals that captivate audiences and break the boundaries of traditional music video production.
