Rising to fame thanks to clips recording the daily moments of workers, TikToker Poor Groom now has a more stable life than before. Although not necessarily rich, he is still full and happy.
The poor groom, real name Hoang Van Quy, born in 1994 in Lang Son, is a famous TikToker with million-view videos. In early 2022, the clip recording his wedding suddenly went viral on social networks, attracting more than 12 million views.
The reason was because the wedding was very special as the surrounding scenery was quite simple, rustic but intimate. Van Quy's dilapidated house did not have any valuable furniture, inside there was only a bed and a small altar for him and his wife to hold the ceremony.
It was also from this clip that the male TikToker became known to many people and was nicknamed "Poor Groom". Born in Lang Son, but from a young age, Van Quy followed his family to Phu Yen to work and live. For some reasons, his parents divorced early, each of them started their own family, so the 9x guy got used to an independent life, struggling alone.
Van Quy then applied to Dong Nai to work as a worker at a company. He was married and had a son over 10 years old, but because his marriage was not very happy, he decided to end it. He thought that his life would go on like that until he met a girl in the boarding house and got married.
Many people admire the TikToker's wife for understanding the difficult circumstances, accepting her husband having a child, and coming together with sincerity. No matter how hard life is, smiles are always on the lips of the young couple. Thanks to that, the audience can feel the simple happiness and true love of poor workers.
Since the wedding clip went viral, Van Quy has been actively producing more clips and posting them on TikTok under the name "Poor Groom". Many people are attracted by the authentic, simple content related to his family's daily life, so they don't hesitate to press the follow button so as not to miss any clips.
Currently, the TikTok channel Poor Groom has more than 730,000 followers and more than 21 million likes. The fanpage of the young man from Lang Son also recorded more than 130,000 subscribers. These impressive numbers prove the great attraction of the 9x worker.
The main content on the Poor Groom channel mainly records the life in a small rented room of the couple and Van Quy's son. In addition, the male TikToker also makes additional content reviewing company meals, breaking piggy banks, taking his wife and children shopping for Tet,... All are very simple and close, not fussy but still "retain" viewers.
Although he received a lot of support and positive feedback from the online community, there were also mixed opinions that these were all "nonsense" videos. Regarding this issue, Van Quy frankly shared that many times when reading those criticisms, he felt discouraged and wanted to stop. However, since he was young and independent because his parents divorced early, he always had positive thoughts and actions to have the motivation to overcome difficulties.
According to the male TikToker, the most difficult thing for workers is unstable work, for example, during the recent Covid-19 outbreak, people temporarily lost their jobs and had no money to cover their living expenses. Therefore, having additional income from other sources will help workers somewhat reduce the burden of "bread and butter".
During the time the epidemic has not ended, Van Quy is also one of many workers whose jobs have been affected, with no overtime and an average income of only about 7 million VND. Every month, his family has to pay for things like: rent, electricity and water, which is about 1.5 million VND and tuition for his 3rd grade son, which is more than 2 million VND/month. That is not to mention the expenses for illness and weddings. These are numbers that show that more effort is still needed from a man who is the pillar of the family.
Thanks to TikTok, Van Quy has an additional income to cover his living expenses. After several years of steady growth, his family's current life is somewhat more stable than before. However, to achieve these achievements, this young man had to go through many difficulties.
Because he was just a worker who worked hard all day in the factory, now having to spend time to come up with ideas, learn how to shoot and edit videos so that viewers can understand easily is not easy. The hardest thing is that Van Quy only uses his phone to shoot and edit videos. Each segment is about 3-5 minutes but it takes 3-4 days to complete.
Perhaps, his wife and children are the motivation for him to overcome all difficulties so that the whole family can have a better life. Earlier this year, the male TikToker and his wife decided to quit their jobs at the company and return to their hometown in Phu Yen. Here, Van Quy's small family lives in a house made of corrugated iron.
Although it is not a grand mansion, many people think that this is the "sweet fruit" of the efforts and hard work of both the worker couple in the past time. The 9x guy's life in the countryside is also very peaceful when he clears the grass and plants a garden in front of the house every day. Occasionally, he will go into the forest to pick bamboo shoots, catch fish... to cook rice.
Now, the TikToker's small family no longer has to eat fried instant noodles with eggs every day, instead, they have meals with more diverse dishes. He also started filming clips of preparing more elaborate and expensive dishes such as seafood, hot pot, chicken, beef, etc. Not only that, Van Quy also regularly updates his life to netizens and still maintains the same sincerity and simplicity as before.
