In March 2019, Korean showbiz was shocked when it discovered a depraved chat group consisting of many famous male idols, including Choi Jong Hoon. He is accused of filming, taking and distributing illegal videos and images, and gang-sexually assaulting many drunk women, along with Jung Joon Young and other celebrities.
Recently, The Fact revealed the current situation of the former leader of FT Island after being released from prison last year. According to the reporter, Choi Jong Hoon went to church with his mother and became a devout believer, regularly attending Sunday afternoon prayers.
The Fact published a video of a conversation with Choi Jong Hoon at a church in Gangdong-gu, Seoul on January 9. After finishing the prayer, the guy showed a confused look when a reporter asked: "I know you have been out of prison for two months, how are you?" Choi Jong Hoon asked back, "What is this?"
Next, Choi shook his head, "I'm sorry", when talking about his plan to return to the entertainment industry. When the reporter asked why he went to church, Choi Jong Hoon replied, "How do you know. I don't understand why people in the church leak my information like this."
Choi Jong Hoon added, "I also had a terrible concussion and severe shock, but what am I going to say when I hold the tape recorder like this?" and reacted harshly to the camera: "What are you doing?"
Choi Jong Hoon's mother scolded reporters, "Why are you asking. Go now. Oh my god. You will be cursed by God." She criticized: "Why are you doing this to a child trying to live in faith? Why make a fuss? Time will tell, God will take care of everything. It will be fine. well, just wait and see. Now leave it alone."
Choi Jong Hoon has completed a sentence of 2 years and 6 months in prison and 80 hours of rehabilitation for sex offenders. Initially, the court handed down a sentence of five years in prison. After that, Choi Jong Hoon filed an appeal and was reduced to 2 years and 6 months because of a successful agreement with the victim's family.
This ruling once made the public angry because the punishment was too light for Choi Jong Hoon. Meanwhile, Jung Joon Young was reduced from 6 years in prison to 5 years. According to Nate, Jung Joon Young will be released from prison in October 2025.
The shocking case also caused many male artists to be involved and had to stop their artistic activities such as Seungri (Big Bang), Lee Jong Hyun (CNBlue). Yong Junhyung also announced his departure from Highlight because he had seen the video that Jung Joon Young sent but did not denounce it.

After the scandal broke out, FNC Entertainment announced the termination of the management contract with the male singer. Choi Jong Hoon's social media account was also deleted under the policy of banning sex criminals from operating in cyberspace.
In 2016, Choi Jong Hoon was drunk, driving and causing a traffic accident. He was released soon after without any investigation thanks to police protection. According to Insight, the former FT Island member bribed two million won to cover up the incident.
Previously, Seungri was accused of being involved in a gangster gang when the police investigated CCTV in Burning Sun. Accordingly, the former idol is accused of calling the gangsters to the bar, causing a commotion in Seungri's VIP room. The former BIGBANG member was not only accused of colluding with gangsters but also accused of inciting them to attack others.
It is known that Choi Jong Hoon was present at the scene of the melee and stood as a witness for the incident. During the initial interrogation, the former FT Island member referred to those present at the scene of the melee as "thugs". However, during the trial on April 29, the former idol denied the previous testimony and asserted that it was just his own assumption.
The former idol stated, "Although it is true that they called someone, Seungri and Yoo In Suk did not use the term 'gangster'. When they said they would call someone, I just called myself a 'gangster'. In the first interview, the police also used this word so I used that term."
