Nguyen Trung Dung - Chairman and General Director of the Vietnamese expert unit - tried the pho that Chi Pu sells in China for the first time on June 1. According to the CEO, during the trip to Shanghai, his group took 45 minutes to move to a Vietnamese restaurant after a week of eating food from a friend's country.
Mr. Trung Dung gave many compliments, criticisms, and evaluations from the business location to the chef, the taste of the dish. According to him, Chi Pu Be's pho shop, designed in the form of a bar, can only serve about 10 diners. The shop has two employees and sells only one dish. In addition, guests can order more naked eggs, scrambled eggs and coffee.
The price of a bowl of pho at Chi Pu restaurant is about 160,000 VND, which he appreciates quite highly compared to the current price in China. The dish is simple but the part looks good. "The pho cake is fine, the meat is soft, quite thick. The restaurant has good toothpicks, but the pho is too salty, my group has to add spring water to the bowl of pho to eat temporarily. Pho soup has no spice smell and no bone simmering taste," said Mr. Trung Dung.
The CEO of a unit specializing in spices said that the person in charge of the kitchen is not a professional chef, not a Vietnamese, so he does not know what the position of pho soup must be: "I think at least at the beginning, there should be a Vietnamese chef, then we can train natives and develop some more dishes such as stir-fried pho, bread, salad rolls".
If there are other Vietnamese pho chains participating in the Shanghai market, Mr. Trung said that Chi Pu's restaurant is difficult to compete. When he asked the members of the delegation about the taste of pho at Shanghai airport compared to Chi Pu restaurant, this person said that it was okay but better than the open Chi Pu pho. Returning to Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Trung Dung hopes that when he returns to Shanghai, Chi Pu's pho will be more delicious.

He started his business in Poland three times and returned to Vietnam in 2010 after 30 years of hard work. At the age of 50, he started a successful business thanks to Vietnamese spices. Previously, many Vietnamese YouTubers and TikTokers came to try the taste of Chi Pu's pho in China. YouTuber Khoa Pug's 4.6 million followers led Chinese friends to eat. He commented that the pho was a bit salty. On the contrary, the friend who accompanied me said that Chinese people have a saltier taste than Vietnam. With three bowls of pho, a portion of stir-fry and two naked eggs, Khoa Pug had to pay 700,000 VND.
Not long ago, a tiktoker when reviewing the female singer's pho shop, directly criticized the taste of pho here as "lost its roots", "there is no feeling that it is pho", milk coffee is too thin, more like cold brew, iced tea is like "colored water". The only thing that is praised is the swing.
At that time, many people explained that changing the taste of food and drinks to suit the natives was completely normal for shops selling foreign food, not only pho. Because this is a factor to be able to retain customers and make them love the food.
Receiving the attention of the audience of the country of billions of people after the Pedal the Wind 2023 program, Chi Pu promoted artistic activities and opened two pho shops in the Chinese market.
