Hong Van watched "Tho Oi" (Oh, Little Rabbit), compared it to the film she starred in, and pointed out a surprising similarity.

Overcoming the barrier of a difficult musical genre to script, director Chung Chi Cong's film not only sets a new record for Vietnamese musical films but also directly confronts the "blockbusters" from veteran filmmakers.
Record opening revenue of a musical film
As of the morning of March 1, according to data from the independent observer Box Office Vietnam, the film "Thank you for waking up with me" has officially reached the revenue milestone of 8.3 billion VND after 3 days of premiere. With this number, the work is currently in second place on the day's sales chart, only behind Tran Thanh's "Rabbit!"
Notably, on February 28, the film made history when it became the highest-grossing musical of all time in the Vietnamese market. This is considered a miracle for a film that is more about emotions and art, especially when released in the context that Tet film projects still have a great attraction for the mass audience.
Young people's stories: From "What is a dream?" to "Who do it with?"
Without following the path of humor or excessive drama, director Chung Chi Cong brings a romantic contemplative journey. The film revolves around Mong Hoai (Vo Phan Kim Khanh) – a young person who is torn between his passion for art and the grim pressures of reality.
The bright spot throughout the film is the emotional relationship between Hoai and his father, Mr. Nam Nghia (Artist Huu Chau). Although he is a deaf person, Mr. Nam Nghia has used silent actions to convey immense love, becoming the most solid fulcrum for his daughter. The film's message subtly shifts from finding the ego to finding a companion: "What is your dream?" is not as important as "Who do I want to fulfill that dream with?".
The combination of new breeze and core values
The cast of the film is an interesting mix of young faces such as Vo Phan Kim Khanh, Tran Doan Hoang, Chi Pham, Phuong Nam... and veteran names such as Artist Huu Chau, Nguyen Hung. The freshness in the acting of the main couple has received many positive feedbacks from the audience.
Many viewers appreciate the ability to balance the plot and musical elements – a difficult problem that not many Vietnamese musicals have solved before. The script is solid, the playful but no less profound spirit has helped the film reach an audience that loves lightness and kindness.
"Let's go to my house" and the family film race
Competing directly with "Thank you for waking up with me" is "Let's go to my house", the work gathers familiar stars such as Uyen An, People's Artist Kim Xuan, Hong Van. As of the morning of March 1, the film achieved revenue of more than 5.6 billion VND.
Despite having a widely covered media campaign, "Let's Go My House" chooses the direction of exploiting familiar family conflicts but still has its own charm. The story revolves around the journey of reconciling the rifts between Phuong (Uyen An) and his harsh father – Mr. Chien (Hoang Son). The trip to Nam O village is not only a field trip but also a journey to heal the wounds between generations.
The appearance of "Thank you for waking up with me" and "Let's go to my house" shows that the Vietnamese cinema film market is gradually diversifying in genres. If Chung Chi Cong's work conquers the audience with music and freshness, Uyen An's film retains viewers with slices of close family. These are optimistic signals for Vietnamese cinema in the transition period after the long holiday.
The spectacular "reversal": When emotions overwhelm the brand formula
If you look at the surface, Tran Thanh's "Rabbit!" is still holding the throne thanks to a huge media apparatus and a loyal audience from familiar entertainment formulas. However, looking deep into the nature of cash flow and the current cinema psychology, "Thank you for waking up with me" is creating a real trauma. The fact that a musical film – a genre that is considered a "dead end" in Vietnam – can catch up and set an opening gross record shows a major shift in the audience's aesthetic tastes: They are starting to prioritize aesthetic and original artistic experiences over over-the-top pieces of comedy or drama.
The risk of "surpassing" the work from director Chung Chi Cong lies not only in the figure of 8.3 billion VND, but also in the soaring occupancy rate of empty seats thanks to the word-of-mouth effect. While competitors such as "Rabbit!" or "Let's go to my house" rely heavily on the attraction of "box office guarantors" such as Uyen An or Tran Thanh, "Thank you for waking up with me" wins with the story's self-empathy. Once the public's curiosity about the "musical record" turns into the act of buying tickets en masse, a deposition of the throne in the coming days is no longer a forecast, but a scenario that exists right in front of us.
Tran Thanh was closely approached by the film of 'Sister 9 Nghia', at risk of losing his position and attitude of attention?
Sông Trăng12:25:58 01/03/2026The movie track in March witnessed a spectacular change of throne when Rabbit! of Tran Thanh met a heavyweight opponent. Rookie Vo Phan Kim Khanh as Sister 9 Nghia is putting tremendous pressure, directly threatening the throne of the trillion-dollar male director.
