Singer Phuc Anh: 3 times valedictorian, Do Thi Ha's aunt, volunteering across Vietnam

Born into a poor family with many children in a rural area of Thanh Hoa, Phuc Anh argued with her parents, fiercely pursued her passion, became a singer and had a happy family. She is also known as the aunt of beauty queen Do Thi Ha.

Poor family's chil.d was valedictorian 3 times

Phuc Anh's real name is Tran Thi Hong Phuc, born in 1992 in Nong Cong district, Thanh Hoa province - the same hometown as singer Phuong Thanh.

Her father is a 1/4 disabled veteran, losing 81% of his ability to work, working as a traditional medicine practitioner far away, while her mother sells goods at home. Since childhood, she and her siblings mostly lived with their mother and became independent early.

When she was in school, Phuc Anh often felt sad when she saw her friends being picked up and dropped off by their parents. Despite not receiving much attention or supervision in her studies, she was always an excellent student.

At the ag.e of 8, she often watched Korean music programs and movies on the old TV in the house. Every time she saw a touching scene, she cried, drawing on her emotions to write poems and music. From the melody and lyrics running through her head, she wrote them down and sang along, and that was how her first composition was born.

At that time, Phuc Anh began to nurture her dream of becoming a singer. Her teacher once refused to let her join the class's performing arts team because her voice was too deep (because her voice had not yet broken) and she was the highest in the class. At the ag.e of 12, her voice broke and she began to "conquer" large and small competitions in her hometown, winning countless first prizes.

Phuc Anh's parents wanted her to study finance and banking to escape poverty and change her life, but she chose to enroll in Thanh Hoa College of Culture and Arts (now Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism).

The day she received the admission notice, her father hid it. A few days later, Phuc Anh accidentally discovered it and had a big argument with her parents. After that, she fasted for 3 days. Her parents, out of pity for their daughter, had to give in.

The two borrowed mone.y from the government to pay for her living expenses of 800,000 VND per month, and tuition was exempted because he was a severely disabled veteran. They said they would only support their daughter for 3 years, and if she wanted to study more in the future, they would have to take care of it themselves.

Four years later, at the ag.e of 19, Phuc Anh graduated as valedictorian, but due to lack of proper advice, she continued to take the entrance exam to the intermediate level of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. She wasted 2 years relearning old knowledge, so she asked Mr. Ta Minh Tam to let her drop out.

Listening to her friends' advice, Phuc Anh was absorbed in singing. In 2016, she applied for the regular program at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, but then dropped out at the last minute. In 2019, she was determined to take the exam again and was the valedictorian, graduating with honors with 9.15 points.

"The journey to pursue professional music has been quite bumpy, partly because of me. However, I do not regret the past because they contributed to shaping the person and personality I am today," Phuc Anh said.

Having been singing since the ag.e of 15, Phuc Anh now has a stable life and wants to focus on pursuing cinematic music style.

Phuc Anh shared that Miss Do Thi Ha is her husband's niece and calls her her cousin even though they are only about 9 years apart.

She currently has a fulfilling private life with her husband and 2 children. Every morning, she wakes up at 5am to practice yoga and meditate until 7am to take her children to school. At noon, the 9X practices dancing for 1.5 - 2 hours with a personal choreographer, then makes music, and in the afternoon she picks up her children, takes them swimming, cycling... When the children sleep, the singer spends time chanting, meditating, practicing her voice, playing the guitar, and writing music.

In normal life, Phuc Anh is quite discreet, does not use TikTok and has only over 100 friends on her personal Facebook, and there was a period when she did not post anything. She maintains the habit of reading some mainstream newspapers every day.

Thanks to a solid support system, Phuc Anh is confident and determined to pursue her passion at an ag.e that is no longer too young. Her background is a solid foundation of vocal training and decades of ups and downs in the profession, being criticize.d by the audience for many things such as "singing like a machine", "looking arrogan.t"...

Phuc Anh used to be very proud and refused to accept criticism. Because she always thought she was good and talented, she would ignore anyone who said otherwise. This mindset became a barrier that made her struggle for 10 years.

In 2019, the female singer began to focus on Buddhism, gradually changing her temperament. After a period of initial struggle, she was able to get rid of her ho.t temper and stay calm in the face of insults.

"When I was born, no one knew who I was, and when I died, there was nothing left. Therefore, I want to leave my name in art. With natural talent, I want to affirm myself as a true artist, I don't want to get married, have children, and then live quietly waiting for the day I di.e," Phuc Anh said.

However, she advocates a non-competitive career, is ready to accept whatever happens, follows fate and does everything within her ability.

Implement cross-Vietnam volunteer projects

Recently, singer Phuc Anh released the song "54 Vietnamese ethnic groups". The song was first performed by singer Phuc Anh on the red carpet of the 30th Mai Vang Awards ceremony in 2024. However, this is not just a simple music product. According to singer Phuc Anh, the MV "54 Vietnamese ethnic groups" is the beginning of a series of charity projects for the community that Phuc Anh and his team have long cherished.

The project includes volunteer trips across the country, cultural exchanges between 54 ethnic groups and many other unique activities.

The charity trip spanned across the three regions of the North, Central and South with many interesting sideline activities, starting after the Lunar New Year. In each place Phuc Anh visited to give gifts to children from disadvantaged families, she also organized cultural exchanges with the locals.

"That is the way for me to learn more about local ethnic culture. It is a journey to collect extremely valuable cultural materials that I have. This project has been cherished for many years and only now can I carry it out" - singer Phuc Anh said.

The charity project "54 Vietnamese ethnic groups" will visit all 3 regions of the North - Central - South, at each "stop" there will be an "ambassador". For the Northern region, Miss Vietnam Ethnic Groups Nong Thuy Hang will accompany Phuc Anh's team to spread this positive message.

In the Central and Southern regions, the identities of the two beauties will soon be revealed. In each region, the crew will stop at schools and have meetings with children representing the ethnic groups in that region.

The "red thread" connecting the entire project will be a lotus painting with 54 petals symbolizing 54 ethnic groups, which will be painted by children representing each ethnic group at each exchange session. When the painting is completed, Phuc Anh will auction it at the project's closing gala and continue to use the auction proceeds for charity projects.

As expected, the team will give out about 1,000 scholarships during this entire journey.
