Julie comes from a family of 6 brothers and sisters. Her father was a soldier (Indian) in the French army that fought in Vietnam (before 1954). Her mother is Pham Thi Hoai from Can Tho. She is also known to be the inspiration for musician Pham Duy to compose a song called Mai Toc Sister Hoai.

Julie told in her memoirs: her mother raised her children alone; Although she was very poor and needy, her mother still tried to take care of her and her children to attend a French school - because she did not want her children to suffer. She also did not regret spending money when she had to save every penny to buy her a music book or a luxury music collection so that she could nurture her passion for art.

With the encouragement of her mother, Julie entered the artistic path by singing with young bands. In the late 60s, she sang English and French music for US military bases in some provinces such as Long Binh, Bien Hoa, Nha Trang, Buon Me Thuot, Tan Son Nhat...

During a singing session, she happened to meet Duy Quang - the son of musician Pham Duy. After meeting them to sing together in Nha Trang (between 1968-1970), Julie and Duy Quang gradually became a beautiful couple both on stage and in real life.

In her Autobiography Lipstick Julie , she wrote:

"... At the beginning of singing, in the late 1960s, I was a teenager like a moth. I spread my wings on my own, "plunging into the fire". .. At that time, I did not know that Duy Quang was the son of musician Pham Duy.

... And we formed the family band: The Dreamers. Thanks to him, I started practicing Vietnamese music. Not long after, I was known to the Vietnamese audience with the song Autumn Dead, the music of Pham Duy's poem Apollinaire. Then I became famous with a series of wartime love songs... ".

Julie also told in her autobiography that: She did not know who Bui Giang was, even though he was already a "famous poet, a genius in Vietnamese poetry". She doesn't know poetry, so she's never heard of "the foreign poet Guillaume Apolinaire"...

Until one day poet Bui Giang visited musician Pham Duy. Singer Duy Quang's father introduced Julie to poet Bui Giang. Julie sang for Bui Giang. At that time, he took a pencil and wrote something on a piece of paper... Then he complimented Julie on her good singing, and said: "Grandpa and Dad will have a song attached to your name!"

It is known that while Julie was singing, Bui Giang translated the poem L'autaumne est morte by genius Guillaume Apolinaire into Vietnamese on the spot, and on that same day, musician Pham Duy released the song Autumn dead . This song is dedicated to Julie's voice by both Pham Duy and Bui Giang.

The song Dead Autumn is also Julie's first song recorded on vinyl. This is also a song that has a strong connection with the name of the mixed-Indian female singer - Julie.

Julie Quang once said about the song Autumn Dies as follows: " The autumn of death is a combination of Poetry - East meets West (East meets West) - conceived and born by Ancient Trees like Apolinaire, Bui Giang and Pham Duy, how could he not meet the needs of the Times.

When Duy Quang fell seriously ill in 2012, Julie was the one who took care of the male singer in the last moments. Julie took care of Duy Quang for 44 days. By 11:39 am on December 19, 2012 at Orange Coast Hospital - US time, he had returned to eternity.

For many years, Julie chose to live quietly with her daughter next to the house and small garden with all kinds of plants, peacefully watching the days go by.
