In Phan Thiet (Binh Thuan) there is a villa with ancient architecture, very beautiful even though the owner has remodeled it. It is 100 years old, that is, it was built in 1923. And the special thing here is that the number 1449 is covered with cement in a solemn position - right in the middle of the façade on the 2nd floor.

"Up to now, many tourists and residents still can't help but wonder about this number 1449! We are close but it is not clear what it means. Some people say that it is the first year of the Mai family, others think that it is the money spent on the construction of the house.

Sometimes I see them smoke incense for a few days and then leave, not stay for many days. Currently, the house is guarded and cleaned," said the neighbor of the old villa.

In the process of gathering information by group of researchers, it was found that there were quite a few hypotheses put forward by people: it was the year of construction of the house, the house number, the postal number or the business number...

Considering the hypothesis that it was the year the house was built. Tracing the history of the formation of the land of Phan Thiet - Binh Thuan, we can clearly see that this land used to be the land of Chiem Thanh. It was not until 1653 that Phan Thiet was inhabited by Vietnamese. Therefore, this house could not have been formed in 1449.

Regarding the hypothesis of the number of houses, from 1975 onwards, Nguyen Van Troi street was only a small road, about a kilometer long, with very few houses, mainly fish sauce processing tents of the hams (the names of large fish sauce producers in Phan Thiet). The tents usually have a very large façade width, so the house on this road cannot have as many houses as 1449.

Another hypothesis may be that this is the postal number or business number (like today's business registration number) of the owner of the house. However, usually shops, shops, companies or companies often engrave their brand names on the house such as Chanh Ngu, Lien Thanh, Hong Huong, Hong Sanh, ... but no one engraved the postal number or business number on the façade of the house.

According to research, the owner of the ancient villa, Ms. Mai Thi Bach Ba, died ten years ago. She had no husband and children, so when she died, she left the property to her grandchildren - the children of her biological brother.

Mr. Mai.C.T - the co-heir of the ancient villa said that the land on which the villa was built originated as the inheritance of his grandmother, surnamed Duong. Then she married his grandfather, surnamed Mai. Both live here.

On that day, Mr. T.'s grandparents worked as a fish sauce trader, transporting them by boat to the Central or North to sell to traders and people. In 1923, his grandparents decided to build this villa with an impressive architecture, shopping for furniture in the house all precious wood...

After Mr. T.'s paternal grandparents died, his aunt - Mrs. Ba inherited and lived here. She worked as a grocery trader to Phu Quy Island to sell, then imported agricultural products to the mainland to trade.

When Mrs. Ba died, Mr. T.'s brothers became the co-heirs of the house. But now all relatives have settled in the US, only one person lives in Ho Chi Minh City. HCM. And sometimes this person returns to his hometown to visit home, lighting incense for his ancestors. The rest of them hire people to be housekeepers, take care of the incense burning as well as sweep and clean.

Therefore, when visiting this ancient villa, few people suspect that this place has been uninhabited for a long time. "Every day, the caretaker comes to sweep and open the back door so that the villa is ventilated and not entangled in the smell of mold. Recently, Ms. Ba's descendants returned from the US and stayed for a few days. Then they re-entered Saigon and then went over there.

Although the villa is 100 years old, it is still very new because it has been remodeled. The group of reporters rarely went inside, but I heard the family say that all the items were still new because they used all precious and fine wooden furniture before," the neighbor informed.

Regarding the number 1449 located in the middle of the 2nd floor, Mr. T. once said that he did not know exactly what it meant. However, he heard his predecessor say that it was the beginning of the ancestral family.

There is also a relative of Mr. T. who thinks that the number 1449 is the amount of money that Ms. Ba's parents built this villa. They want to engrave the amount of money as a commemoration marking an important milestone in people's lives. At the same time, they also want their children and grandchildren to know the true value of the house.
