The broken marriage of King Bao Dai and Queen Nam Phuong left people with many regrets about a beautiful love. Besides, the fate of 5 children is also of great interest to many people.
King Bao Dai was the last king of the Nguyen Dynasty. He married Nguyen Huu Thi Lan (Empress Nam Phuong's real name) in 1934. The two knew each other during a vacation in Da Lat. The period of meeting and falling in love with the Queen of the late Nguyen dynasty took place very quickly.
According to anecdotes, to be able to get together, King Bao Dai accepted many regulations of the bride's family. Specifically, he had to make Nguyen Huu Thi Lan Queen, in order for his wife to keep Catholicism, the children born had to be baptized, especially the rule of homogeneity in a monogamous marriage. The Nguyen dynasty initially disagreed, but was forced to accept it when King Bao Dai asserted that: "I married a wife for me, not for Ton That Han and the court". Despite agreeing, the above regulations more or less bring a bad view of King Bao Dai's mother to her future daughter-in-law.
The first time after getting married, they lived very happily. Nam Phuong Queen gave birth to her husband 5 children. However, as time went on, the love between them faded.
Although he was infatuated with the Queen, King Bao Dai was a very romantic and playful person. After the August Revolution, King Bao Dai abdicated, the whole family left the palace. He went to Hanoi to work as a Government Advisor. Queen Nam Phuong stayed in Hue.
And from there, she discovered that her husband was sneaking around with different women. Some names can be mentioned such as Thu concubine Mong Diep, Ly Le Ha, Hoang Tieu Lan, Phi Anh and even the second official wife named Monique Baudot. The two got married and got a marriage license in 1972.
The former emperor and Queen Nam Phuong broke up, and the fate of their children was also concerned.
1. Prince Bao Long
The first son of King Bao Dai, Bao Long attended the College des Roches at the age of 11 after the fall of the dynasty. After graduating, he attended a "kingdom" school that his father had attended before. While studying at Lycee Condoreet, but without graduating, Bao Long was drafted into the French army. In order to keep Long from having to fight, King Bao Dai had previously registered him to work in France as the Vietnamese army. Events struck the young man when his father was overthrown by Ngo Dinh Diem. At this time, he became an exile without being recognized as a French officer.
After working in the French military district, Bao Long moved to work at a bank. Here he married a woman who worked as an interior decorator, she had two children of her own. During their time together, they did not have any children in common. Perhaps because he was so disappointed, King Bao Long fell more and more, gathered to play. He gradually used up all the inheritance that Queen Nam Phuong left behind before "going away". In addition, he also auctioned some royal treasures to have money to serve his wild life.
Bao Long "died" in 2007. By the end of his life, he had no assets left because he had sold them all for money to spend during his lifetime.
2. Prince Bao Thang
The second child of King Bao Dai and Queen Nam Phuong. Bao Thang moved to France when he was only 3 years old. He attended the school Couvent des Oiseaux - this is also one of the famous schools that his mother attended.
Growing up, Prince Bao Thang lived in Paris. He enjoys playing music and painting. Like his eldest brother, Bao Thang has no children because he chooses to follow his passion and stay single for the rest of his life.
Thus, the official generation of princes of King Bao Dai did not have an heir. But fortunately, the stepchild named Bao An of King Bao Dai and "second wife" Phi Anh living in the US gave birth to a son and a grandson of Duc Ton.
3. Princess Phuong Mai
Phuong Mai was born in 1937. She is the first daughter after two older brothers Bao Long and Bao Thang. Phuong Mai has a difficult relationship when she has experienced many husbands but is not happy. At first, the princess married a French Jew, but it soon ended because her husband discovered that his wife was a daughter of the family but had no property, even her father sometimes fell into poverty.
According to documents of Nguyen Dac Xuan, Princess Phuong Mai's second husband is a pilot. She was soon abandoned by her husband and left a child to be raised by Phuong Mai alone. Then she went one step further. The third husband is of Italian origin, the two have several children together, but their married life is not complete when her husband unfortunately passed away very early.
4. Princess Phuong Dung
This is one of the 5 children of Queen Nam Phuong who has the most fulfilling life. Phuong Dung was born in 1938. She married a French man who worked in a bank. Later, the couple moved to Hong Kong to live and start a business. Because of the distance, Princess Phuong Dung rarely visits her father. However, she still kept her filial piety by regularly sending money back to King Bao Dai to spend.
5. Princess Phuong Lien
As the youngest sister in the royal family, Phuong Lien's life is also very difficult. She moved to France at a young age with her siblings and worked as a babysitter in Paris. Phuong Lien's monthly income is only enough to cover the day. About the married life of the youngest princess is still a mystery.
After all, Queen Nam Phuong did not have a happy marriage with King Bao Dai, but the fate of her 5 children was not very positive. In the end, the only person who has a perfect life is the second princess, Phuong Dung.
