After a long investigation into Yoo Ah In's use of banned substances, new details of the case have recently been revealed, shocking the public.
According to an exclusive report from Munhwa Ilbo on November 2, actor Yoo Ah In has been indicted without custody on charges of attempted destruction of evidence, fraud, violation of the Health Act, and habitual use of prohibited substances. The indictment revealed that Yoo Ah In administered a total of 9.6 liters of propofol through 181 separate treatment sessions at 14 different hospitals over a two-year period, starting in September 2020.
The report also noted that Yoo Ah In made 44 separate transactions to buy 566g of midazolam, 10.7ml of the banned substance ketamine, and 200g of the tranquilizer remimazolam. The actor is also accused of illegally buying 1150 sleeping pills using someone else's name.
In addition, Yoo Ah In is also suspected of trying to entice others to use banned substances together to hide her mistakes. According to The Fact, Yoo Ah In smoked marijuana with acquaintances B and C at an outdoor swimming pool in a residential area located in Los Angeles, California in January this year. However, he was witnessed by Youtube who was filming Vlogs in the pool.
Yoo Ah In then instigated YouTuber "A" to "give it a try" to make him an accomplice. Yoo Ah In's enticement purpose is to silence A, lest A report her behavior to the police. However, this person steadfastly refused.
The Seoul court will hold Yoo Ah-in's trial on Nov. 14 on charges of violating the Banned Substances Act.
Yoo Ah-in, born in 1986, has 20 years of artistic activity as an actor. He rose to prominence for his role in the drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal in 2010 and has since become one of Korea's most popular actors, winning several awards for acting including Best Actor at the Korea Film Critics Association in 2015 and Blue Dragon Award in 2016.
In February, Yoo Ah-in was involved in a substance use scandal. During this period, the police confiscated two of Yoo Ah-in's phones and analyzed the conversations in them. Authorities also searched the actor's home and medical facility suspected of supplying him with illegal substances and summoned those involved.
The 37-year-old artist was banned from leaving the country during the investigation. Korean media revealed that Yoo Ah-in tested positive for 4 stimulants including marijuana, propofol, cocaine and ketamine.
On March 27, he was summoned for a 1st investigation and worked with police for 12 hours as a suspect. After finishing the investigation, Yoo Ah-in bowed his head and apologized to the media, saying, "From my current mistake, I will try to live healthier in the future. I'm really sorry for letting everyone down."
Also on March 28, Yoo Ah-in posted a letter on Instagram, formally apologizing since being investigated for his drug use. The 37-year-old actor expressed remorse and admitted to taking responsibility for his actions.
By May 17, Yoo Ah-in had completed the investigation at 4:40 a.m. However, after the end, "Emperor Photo" spent another two hours reviewing the file. He left the Police Department at 6:30 a.m. the same day. The investigation and interrogation of the actor lasted for 21 hours and Yoo Ah-in was summoned as a suspect.
There, Yoo Ah-in also gave interviews from reporters about the second interrogation. When asked about the content of the investigation at the police station, the actor said, "I said what I could say. Sorry to worry everyone."
However, when asked if he used cocaine and other illegal substances, the actor rushed to the car and quickly left.
But, according to media reports, the police revealed more information that actor Yoo Ah-in had admitted to receiving marijuana from a close friend for use. But, the actor has insisted that his use of ketamine and propofol (milk injections) is only used for medical purposes and denied that he ever smoked cocaine.
