Ut Lan reached 60 billion, surpassing Brad Pitt's F1, Quoc Truong's rumored girlfriend revealed the secret

Vietnamese horror film Ut Lan: Oan linh chua cua continues to dominate the Vietnamese box office with a total revenue of over 60 billion VND after nearly two weeks of showing, surpassing many Hollywood blockbusters, including F1 - a work starring actor Brad Pitt.

According to data from Box Office Vietnam, during the three-day weekend (June 27–29), Ut Lan: Oan Linh Giu Cua topped the box office revenue chart, earning more than VND18.1 billion with 213,511 tickets sold. As of the morning of June 30, the total revenue of the film directed by Tran Trong Dan had reached more than VND61 billion.

Vietnamese films dominate box office amid international blockbuster season

Steady growth in revenue helped Ut Lan: Oan Linh Giu Cua surpass many foreign works. The film, starring Quoc Truong and Mac Van Khoa, continued to hold the top spot on the charts, despite facing mixed opinions from the audience.

Ut Lan: Oan linh chua cu is a horror film set in the West in the late 1990s - a period when spiritual stories, mysterious legends and creepy customs still existed in folk life. The main character Lan (played by Phuong Thanh), after losing her father, decided to work as a maid at the house of Mr. Danh (Mac Van Khoa) - a widower who lives alone.

As soon as she arrives at the house, Lan is constantly confronted with strange phenomena and mysterious deaths. Together with Son (Quoc Truong) - a writer specializing in horror stories, Lan gradually discovers the terrifying secrets and dark history of the haunted village.

Controversy over content quality and acting

Despite topping the box office, the film still received negative reviews. Many viewers said that the script lacked logic, contained many "errors", the scare elements were not strong enough, and the acting of the cast did not leave a deep impression.

Sharing about her role, the female lead Phuong Thanh once expressed regret because many psychological scenes were cut during the editing process:

"The script was also cut quite a lot when it was made into a movie. There were a few lines with Truong that I really liked, but they were not in the final version. In the movie, Lan is a girl who no longer has any relatives, so it is understandable that she was moved when Son helped her.
I regret and am sad because many gentle and cute scenes were cut. If they were kept, perhaps the audience would understand more clearly the relationship between the two characters. But I still respect the director's decision."

The remaining competitors: Live-action, animation, and Hollywood blockbusters

Coming in second on the weekend chart was the live-action film How to Train Your Dragon, with a revenue of over VND7.4 billion. Total revenue has now reached nearly VND54 billion. The live-action version of this hit animated series is set on the island of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been at odds for generations. The main character Hiccup (played by Mason Thames) – the son of the chieftain – breaks stereotypes when he befriends the dragon Toothless, opening up a tense conflict between the two factions.

In third place is Elio – The Boy from Earth, an animated film produced by Pixar, which earned more than 4.9 billion VND last weekend and achieved a total revenue of more than 7.4 billion VND. The film tells the story of Elio – an 11-year-old boy who lives a closed life and feels lost in the world. He is suddenly drawn into an extraterrestrial adventure, where he becomes an unwilling "ambassador to Earth".

Brad Pitt returns to F1, still at a disadvantage in Vietnam

Despite high expectations, the film F1 starring Brad Pitt only ranked fourth at the Vietnamese box office with a revenue of more than 3.6 billion VND last weekend. As of the morning of June 30, the total revenue reached more than 4.7 billion VND.

F1 tells the story of Sonny Hayes, a veteran racing driver who had to retire after a serious accident. In middle age, he is invited back to the track to revive a racing team that was on the brink of collapse. Although the plot is quite familiar, Brad Pitt's subtle performance makes the character more realistic and emotional. As a co-producer and co-developer of the script, the actor directly drove many scenes to add authenticity to the film.

Doraemon Movie 44 is gradually cooling down

After stirring up the Vietnamese box office at the beginning of summer, Doraemon Movie 44 has now lost its appeal, falling to fifth place. Last weekend, the film earned more than 2.2 billion VND.

Total revenue has now exceeded 165 billion VND, significantly higher than the previous part, Doraemon Movie 43 (147 billion VND).
