Deep in the dense taiga forests of southeastern Siberia, there exists a bizarre limestone structure that defies all laws of nature. It is the Patomskiy crater, or as the locals call it by its haunting name: "Fire Eagle Nest".
Shocking discovery in the middle of the wilderness
The story begins in August 1949, when the young geologist Vadim Kolpkov hears grim warnings about a place that brings sickness and death to anyone who dares to approach it. Despite the curses, Kolpkov climbed the hillside and was stunned by a huge rock the height of a 25-story building that rose amidst the green vegetation.
"The first time I saw it, I thought I was crazy from the heat," Kolpkov recalled. In the middle of a land where there has been no volcanic activity for millions of years, a perfectly round funnel mouth appeared 70 meters high, white as a pile of mine slag but completely devoid of traces of human hands.
Geological structure "like no other"
Patomskiy is more than just a depression. It has a bottom diameter of about 160m and a height of 40m. The strangest point is located in the center of the limestone circle: a semicircular arched mound 12m high, which looks like a giant egg placed in a bird's nest.
Expeditions show that this crater is quite new. The wind had not yet brought in the soil and the trees had not been able to grow on the shattered rock slopes. According to estimates based on the age cycle of the surrounding pine trees, this "nest" only appeared about 300 years ago.
"Mutant" trees and traces of radiation
The mystery does not stop at geology but also spreads to botany. Scientists, led by Professor Viktor Voronin, have detected astonishing anomalies in the life cycle of trees around the area.
Rapid growth: Some trees grow unusually fast and large compared to similar plants in the region.
Historical Events of 1842: Analysis of tree rings shows that in the period 1841-1842, trees fell en en masse or had narrowed growth rings. Shortly thereafter, from 1842, they exploded again for 40 years before shrinking again.
Foreign metal content: Analysis results at the Budker Nuclear Institute show that concentrations of strontium and uranium in wood are 3-4 times higher than normal levels.
UFOs, Meteorites or Gas Volcanoes?
Over the past 70 years, a series of theories have been put forward, but none of them have been conclusive: Meteorite impact: Like the Tunguska event, no metal fragments or dents have been found due to the impact of extreme forces. Alien Objects (UFOs): Some speculate about a nuclear-powered spacecraft that crashed and was buried underneath, explaining the radiation concentration and strange growth of trees (similar to the phenomenon after the Chernobyl disaster).
Gaseous volcanoes: This is the most popular hypothesis among scientists. They believe that this is a unique type of volcano, formed by the release of gas from deep in the ground, pushing limestone blocks to the surface. However, the origin of the radioactive isotopes in this hypothesis remains a major question mark.
To this day, Patomskiy still stands as a "monument" of nature, challenging all attempts to decipher. Is this a rare geological phenomenon or a remnant of an alien force? The answer lies deep beneath the white limestone of cold Siberia.
