TWICE 's performance in Kaohsiung took social media by storm when the group unexpectedly performed a rare double encore, causing the entire stadium to explode and sparking a series of debates from fans in many countries.
Last weekend, on November 22 and 23, TWICE rocked the Kaohsiung National Stadium (Taiwan) with a concert as part of their world tour " THIS IS FOR ". The event quickly attracted tens of thousands of spectators, including veteran ONCEs and new fans of the group. The atmosphere at the stadium was always "charming", as fans eagerly awaited the top-notch stages prepared especially for this stop.
The moment that really made the final show explode was when TWICE unexpectedly performed a double encore â something that was not originally part of the official setlist. The group chose to perform the hit song TT, which has been associated with TWICEâs name since their early days of operation. Immediately, the entire stadium exploded: tens of thousands of spectators sang along, danced and cheered nonstop.
This enthusiastic reaction is seen as TWICE's response to the favor of Taiwanese fans - a long-time stop that has always had warm affection for the group. Many ONCEs commented that the emotions during the double encore moment really "cannot be bought with money".
Along with the excitement, a new wave of controversy emerged on social media, mainly from a segment of Chinese fans. A concertgoer in Macau said that despite the audience shouting encores until they were hoarse, the organizers still did not add a second performance. This person wrote:
"I didn't ask TWICE to sing in Chinese or perform more Chinese songs, I just wanted one more encore but it still didn't work out."
The post quickly went viral, with many commenting that Kaohsiung was given priority due to the strong support from the local government, which helped facilitate the organization and allowed the group to perform a double encore.
Many netizens objected to the comparison between the venues. They said that the audience experience in each place was different, depending on the showâs duration, production plan, and group decisions. Kaohsiungâs double encore was simply a result of careful preparation and a burst of emotions at the right time.
Some Taiwanese fans also mentioned the case of Tzuyu, who has not had the opportunity to perform a concert in her hometown for 10 years. That makes this concert special, further explaining why TWICE has more affection for the Kaohsiung venue.
Regardless of the controversy, both shows in Kaohsiung were still rated excellent in terms of scale and quality. The stage was meticulously invested, the lighting effects, sound and performance were all highly polished. TWICE constantly interacted with the audience, bringing a sense of closeness and sincerity - which has always been an advantage that has helped the group maintain its appeal throughout many years of operation.
For ONCEs, the 'THIS IS FOR' tour was not just a place to enjoy music, but also an opportunity to feel the appreciation that TWICE has for their fans. The double encore in Kaohsiung will definitely be remembered as one of the best moments of the entire tour.
The Kaohsiung concert continued to affirm TWICE's position as the top girl group in the Asian market. Although the debate surrounding the encore issue is still widespread, it is undeniable that TWICE's affection for fans is always sincere and warm.
