This time, the girl was bedridden, her muscles soft, only making eye contact due to her swollen throat after many days of mechanical ventilation. However, every day, Kim still tries to walk, stand and sit like a child to regain movement. Reviving after the illness, she determined to have sex reassignment surgery to program her life the way she wanted.

Like many people in the LGBT community, Kim realized her difference when entering puberty. At that time, she thought she was gay (gay), pursuing her passion for singing in the form of a male singer. In her spare time, Kim exercises again to have a strong and muscular body.

Compared to transgender people in Vietnam, Kim is luckier with surgical interventions in the US, has insurance and is fully supported. The surgery took place in a few hours, the doctor had to remove many parts to make the girl's breasts softer and more feminine. Due to poor health, Kim had to undergo many examinations and tests. For reassurance, she recalled the violent incident, showing that no matter how difficult it is, she can overcome it.

Apart from breast surgery, Kim has no intention of having genital surgery. "The happiness of transgender people is having a feminine shape, and the reproductive system only determines a private part of their life," Kim said, adding that this is a major, dangerous surgery, she does not want to trade their lives with this gamble.

According to the study "The current status of medical experience and transgender needs of Vietnamese transgender people" by iSEE (an NGO), 88% of transgender men and 38% of transgender women plan to undergo breast surgery. , 53% of transgender women to men want to have a hysterectomy, 15% of transgender women plan to have a male genital mutilation. Body confidence is the most common reason for considering gender reassignment surgery.

However, Kim believes that confident people are the most beautiful. "Even without surgery, transgender people will still live and be beautiful in their own way," she shared.
