An image of a traffic police lieutenant colonel selling sugarcane juice after work has unexpectedly gone viral on social media, revealing the simple everyday life behind the uniform and a story of hard work and struggle to make a living.
Recently, social media has been abuzz with images of a man selling sugarcane juice on Buoi Street (Hanoi) with a familiar face, believed to resemble a traffic police officer who frequently appears in law enforcement awareness campaigns. Attention quickly spread, leading to much speculation about the man's true identity.
Upon investigation, the man in the photo is Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Tien, currently working at the Traffic Police Department of the Hanoi City Police. Sharing his thoughts after work, Lieutenant Colonel Tien said he was quite surprised that his everyday image had spread so widely on social media.
"That afternoon, like any other day, I finished work and went to help my wife sell sugarcane juice. A few young people came to buy some and asked to take pictures. Unexpectedly, the photos had spread online that night," he recounted.
According to him, being recognized might stem from his previous appearances in the press and on social media platforms in traffic safety awareness campaigns. However, this "unexpected fame" did not negatively impact his work; on the contrary, it became a source of amusement among him and his colleagues.
With over 20 years of service in the police force, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Tien is always proud of his profession. However, after work, he returns to a very ordinary role: a husband and father of three young children. "I'm just like everyone else. After work, I have a family and three young children. Opening a sugarcane juice stall wasn't just a stroke of luck, but also a side job to help my family earn extra income to support the children. Behind the image of a traffic police officer, I'm also a husband and a father. When I get home, my wife still scolds me as usual," he shared with a smile.
The family's sugarcane juice stall is not just a side job, but also a crucial source of income to support their lives. During the day, his mother, wife, and children handle the sales; in the evening, after finishing their duties, he directly helps out. The work may seem easy, but it's actually quite strenuous.
Mr. Tien confided: "On busy days, after peeling the third bundle of sugarcane, my hands and feet are exhausted, and the sugarcane peel sticks all over my body, causing intense itching. But thinking about the future of our children, my wife and I continue this work. Later, my family saved up to invest in a more modern machinery system, ordering machines all the way from Ho Chi Minh City. Thanks to that, the work is easier, and the quality of the product has also improved."
Few people know that the opportunity to open his family's sugarcane juice stall began with a rather unsatisfactory experience. About 7 years ago, while drinking sugarcane juice, he noticed that the quality of the drink didn't match the price. From then on, the idea of opening his own clean, high-quality sugarcane juice stall at a reasonable price began to take shape.
Initially, the idea didn't receive much support. In the early days of opening the shop, the family faced many difficulties, even having to throw away sugarcane because they couldn't sell it. However, with perseverance and determination, the couple gradually overcame the challenges. After a few years, the number of customers stabilized, and the shop became more well-known.
His wife, Ms. Do Bich Thuy, said that although the job is quite demanding, it provides a stable income, allowing the family to focus on raising their children. According to her, due to the nature of his work, her husband is often busy, leaving early and returning late, so she always considers herself a strong support system so he can focus on his work.
The story of Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Tien not only captivated the online community with the contrast between his serious image at the office and his simple daily life, but also offered a more relatable perspective on police officers.
