Tinder Scammers

The film is based on the true story of the notorious scammer, Anna Sorokin. From 2010 to 2017, Sorokin posed as the millionaire heiress Anna Delvey to defraud financial institutions and the global elite.
In essence, Sorokin and Hayut had a similar scenario: Spending months or even years building a flashy image on social media, trying to gain trust before defrauding their victims.
According to Pressler, Sorokin used the false identity of "German-born Anna Delvey heir" to infiltrate the wealthy in Manhattan and live lavishly in Soho hotels.
She planned to raise capital from banks to develop the Anna Delvey Foundation, a mixed art and restaurant space.
Sorokin was finally arrested in 2017 and put on trial in 2019. She was convicted of eight counts and acquitted of two - including the most egregious of attempting to steal more than $1 million from City National Bank. .
She was released after four years in prison, but was re-arrested for overstaying her visa. In early 2021, Netflix is said to have paid $ 320,000 to Sorokin to put the life of the "fake rich kid" into a "half-real, half-fictional" movie.
