In order to gain viewers and followers, many TikTokers have devised content that makes viewers bored, even doing actions that may be harmful to health.
TikTok is still known as one of the platforms with a large number of users, not only in Vietnam but also globally.
However, due to the large number of users, combined with the explosion of TikTokers, the platform itself cannot control all the content posted.
It is not difficult to come across content on TikTok that makes viewers feel confused and shake their heads. It was all built for the purpose of getting views and soon became famous from a large part of TikToker. When platforms like Facebook and YouTube have begun to tighten management of content, many users have begun to look to TikTok in the hope that this will be the shortest way to turn themselves into a "KOLs".
If you have used TikTok for a long enough time, many users will find that a lot of the content on this platform is produced with a very ... meaningless content.
Despite being condemned many times, "toxic" content still appears on this application. As recently, a clip with the content "eating a pound of MSG" has attracted the attention of TikTok viewers. In this clip, a TikToker eats a bowl of what is believed to be MSG. Although the clip size is only about 5 seconds and this "fighting" process is also fast-forwarded, many people still can't help but get goosebumps when witnessing this challenge.
Although it is known that MSG or MSG is always a controversial topic about the harm it can cause to human health, making a clip of eating a pound of MSG also makes viewers bored and causes concern when young users (children) can imitate. Once again, the alarm about "content sentence views" on TikTok in particular and social networking platforms in general has been resounded: In order to become famous, many people are defying everything, even actions that endanger themselves and society.
Before cip eating MSG, MXH has witnessed a series of objectionable content such as "putting the phone in the plane window", "sitting on the baggage carousel"...
In mid-August 2022, a TikToker born in 2000 was also sanctioned for illegally using the People's Police costume to make controversial videos. Previously, a female passenger was banned from flying after posing for TikTok in the middle of Phu Quoc airport.
Some shops put up "banning TikToker" signs after there was a controversy between food reviewers and some restaurants. While the TikToker side complained about the quality of service and food, the owner insisted that it was just a way to attract these people's views, causing their business to be affected.
"Because of the view sentence, the like sentence, many people are ready to produce content that is bullshit, not educational, objectionable, or more dangerous than content that violates the law, fine traditions and customs," commented Mr. Le Quang Tu Do, Deputy Director of Broadcasting and Electronic Information - Ministry of Information and Communications.
Mr. Khiem Vu, an administrator of a community of content creators on a social network, said that besides making money, the desire to be famous is a common point of many social network users. "On TikTok, most of the content creators and viewers are young, so there will be cases where there is no mature awareness in making videos and despite being known to many people," Khiem said. He assessed this situation on TikTok similar to Facebook or YouTube at the new stage of importing into Vietnam.
The status of video bullshit on social networks is partly due to the competition to attract and retain users of new platforms. During the two years of the pandemic, TikTok's short videos quickly became a worldwide craze. Witnessing that spectacular success, from last year and earlier this year, other platforms also joined the race to create short video features to serve the taste. However, experts believe that the race makes the content moderation team not keep up with the rapidly increasing number of users, even making a deliberate choice in selecting the content that is allowed to appear for the purpose of viewing views and optimizing profits. "They see users as a profit market, not a society with rules and frameworks to follow," Nanjala Nyabola, a Kenyan sociologist, commented on the Washington Post.
