Thuy Muoi was born in 1972 in a farming family with 10 siblings in Long An. Because she was the 10th chil.d, her parents named her Thi Muoi. When she pursued art, the 7x actress changed her name to Thuy Muoi. That stage name has followed her to this day.
After many years of "struggling" with the profession, taking on all kinds of roles from tragic, comedic to villainous, Thuy Muoi's unique acting style always leaves an impression on the audience even if it's just a supporting role.
Thuy Muoi is known to audiences through the films: Co Tham ve lang 2, Giac mo co tich, Giot le ben song, Tri thuy nghia...
Many people feel sad when they only play supporting roles all their life, but Thuy Muoi is not. She is even called "the queen of supporting roles". For Thuy Muoi, main or supporting roles are not as important as how to play that role.
Despite her enthusiasm and love for her job, Thuy Muoi's career has not been without its challenges. After graduating from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema, Thuy Muoi was unemployed for 2 years. After those 2 years, she applied to join a state-run troupe and was unemployed for a few years. Thuy Muoi was so discouraged that she decided to quit her job and return to her hometown.
But because she was so passionate, Thuy Muoi chose to stay. She accepted a life of hardship and poverty to the point of "doing whatever she could", as long as she could earn honest mone.y, from her passion and ability.
However, there were times when the female artist encountered extremely bitter situations. Sharing with Dan Tri newspaper, Thuy Muoi said that there was a time when she had to perform at a bar. After 1 year, because of an incident with a group of actors who were also performing there, Thuy Muoi quit.
When she returned to the bar, the manager asked the MC to invite Thuy Muoi out because he was afraid she would steal the artist's belongings. "After hearing that, I tried to hold back my emotions so as not to cry, but my eyes were stinging. I felt extremely offended," Thuy Muoi recalled, according to Dan Tri.
That's why Thuy Muoi was determined to rise up and succeed in her career so that people wouldn't loo.k dow.n o.n her. But when her career was on the rise, God tested her with an illness.
More than 10 years ago, Thuy Muoi discovered that she had a heart disease and had to undergo surgery at a very high cost while her finances were tight. After the surgery, the actress also needed to rest for a while, but that meant she had no income to cover her living expenses.
At this time, Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh himself organized a live show, called on fellow artists to support and raise funds to help Thuy Muoi. Thanks to that, the actress born in 1972 overcame the difficult period and returned to art when her health was stable.
"I had many illnesses since I was little but never paid attention. It was only when I grew up and experienced a serious illness that I realized that health is extremely important.
Specifically, I had a period of time with heart disease. In early 2011, I had to have heart surgery and it took me a while to recover and return to acting.
The process of recovering from heart surgery and staying healthy to be able to perform as Thuy Muoi today was a stressful and not easy journey. I had to stay absolutely healthy according to the doctor's instructions to be able to recover as well as I am today.
I am the main breadwinner of the family, if I have any problems my family will be very tired. Another thing is that I love my job, no matter what I have to stand up to perform, have to do what I want.
Then all the love from friends and audiences gave me the motivation to try and make an effort to regain my health like today.
I have to be healthy to continue standing on stage is something I must do. I have to do my best at all costs.
After the heart surgery, it took me a while to regain my health. But for me, spirit is the important factor for me to recover quickly. Besides the love of friends, colleagues and audiences, my family is always behind me to accompany and support me.
Before the surgery, my mother came to visit me and said, 'I just want you to be healthy.' And just from that sentence, I knew I had to be healthy again.
When I had just had surgery, it took me 3 minutes to lift my hand to hold a spoon. When I could finally speak, I was so happy. Now, nothing is more precious to me than my health, so wherever I go, I carry a bag of medicine with me in case I need it."
Regarding her career, Thuy Muoi confided: "When I was over 10 years old, my mother did not let me wear Western clothes, only Vietnamese traditional dress, and when I studied drama at Long An Cultural House, my first role was also wearing Vietnamese traditional dress. In many later roles, I was also asked to wear Vietnamese traditional dress.
For me, the Ao Ba Ba has been familiar to me since I was a chil.d. However, I am completely different on the outside. I like to dress young and dynamically, wearing simple clothes that make me comfortable.
Regarding her single life without husband or children, Thuy Muoi said: "I am the main breadwinner in the family. My family also has older sisters, the oldest of whom is over 70 years old, and young grandchildren. So no matter where I work, I have to carry my phone to stay in touch with my family.
Every day, I have to watch the camera to monitor the situation at home, call home every day to manage everything, and check on my relatives' health.
Therefore, a mobile phone is not only a tool to connect with work but also to connect with relatives. It shows my responsibility to my family and is also the motivation for me to overcome challenges in life."
