In recent years, the name Teacher Beo U40 has become a special phenomenon on social networks. He is both a university lecturer and a famous TikToker and YouTuber with millions of followers.
His videos, from cultural and political analysis to MV reactions, from catching entertainment trends to sharing academic knowledge, all receive great attention from the community. His dual role â as an educator and a content creator â creates his own identity and helps him become an inspirational figure for young people.
Journey to Becoming a Lecturer: Childhood Dream and Chance
Mr. Beo U40's real name is Tran Tuan Dat, born and raised with the dream of becoming a teacher. In his childhood memories, he said that he often gathered friends over to his house, played "classroom" and always took on the role of a teacher. The candies he saved as rewards for his "students" planted in him the seeds of a teaching career.
In secondary school, that dream temporarily gave way to the desire to become an architect, causing Dat to study drawing during every summer vacation. But in high school, he changed his direction to block D and nurtured the ambition of becoming a diplomat, officially registering for the entrance exam to the Faculty of International Relations - University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-HCM).
Graduating in the top 10 students, Dat unexpectedly applied to stay at the school as a teaching assistant â a decision he described as âa fortuitous decisionâ. Since 2010, he officially became a teaching assistant at the Faculty of International Relations and received two full scholarships in Thailand and Korea. In 2014, after completing his master's degree at Chulalongkorn University, he returned to Vietnam and was appointed as a lecturer at the school. A year later, he became deputy dean. In 2019, he moved to work at Hong Bang International University, where he is still teaching.
The journeys of studying abroad and the years of living abroad have given Mr. Beo a rich understanding of culture, society, people and politics. That helps his lectures become more vivid, more practical and easily touch the emotions of the learners.
Social media phenomenon: When the lecturer walks out of the classroom
The popularity of Mr. Beo U40 originated from TikTok videos sharing international knowledge, political trends, cultural events and social phenomena in a friendly and approachable way. Not dogmatic, not dry, his videos are youthful, humorous but still maintain a solid academic foundation.
In just a short time, his videos reached hundreds of thousands to millions of views. And today, his TikTok channel has more than 4 million followers and nearly 170 million likes. On YouTube, he has more than 1.09 million subscribers, and his personal Facebook also attracts more than 100,000 followers.
At first, the sudden fame made him nervous and... unbalanced. But now, he has found a way to harmonize the roles of lecturer and content creator, while pursuing a doctorate in Educational Management at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
He shared: "You only live once, do what you like, bring joy to yourself and spread it to everyone."
With increasing recognition, Teacher Beo hopes to use his influence to connect students in many extracurricular activities, spreading positive energy like the spirit he always puts into each video.
Not only a lecturer and TikToker, Mr. Beo is also a semi-professional singer and MC. He created his own YouTube channel Beo Cover to satisfy his passion for singing. Since his student days, he has won many major awards such as: Gold Prize of Ho Chi Minh City Student Singing Festival 2010, Gold Prize of Ho Chi Minh City National University Student Singing Festival 2010.
His versatility surprises many people because between teaching, researching, and creating content, he still makes time for music â something that brings him many positive emotions.
Hardcore BLACKPINK fan and the project "Vietnamese conical hat in your area"
Few people know that Teacher Beo U40 is a "hardcore fan" of BLACKPINK, having seen the group perform 9 times: 2 shows in Korea, 1 show in Thailand, 2 nights at Coachella, 2 nights in Vietnam and 2 nights in the US. He rated the BORN PINK concert at My Dinh Stadium as the "peak" experience because of the passionate atmosphere and the feeling of pride to see BLACKPINK perform in his hometown.
That special love motivated him to carry out the project "Vietnamese Non La in your area" - a passionate journey to spread the symbol of Vietnamese culture at the encore nights of BORN PINK Tour in the US.
Based on three reasons: his master's thesis on Korean soft power through K-pop, a 2015 lecturer exchange scholarship in the US, and the intense emotions when watching BLACKPINK's concert at My Dinh, he decided to carry out this special cultural project.
Initially, he planned to give away 10 conical hats to international fans. But after posting the clip on TikTok, many Vietnamese audiences in the US wanted to receive gifts, forcing him to open 4 chat groups corresponding to 4 concert locations to coordinate the transportation and distribution of hats.
As a result, he expanded the project to 200 conical hats, all hand-decorated by a group of talented students in Dong Nai. Due to the tight flight schedule, he only had 5 days to prepare. He had to drive continuously, mobilize all his relationships and receive enthusiastic support from the community.
Recently, Thay Beo also caused a stir when posting a series of content related to Huong Giang's journey to conquer the Miss Universe 2025 contest. Although the final result was not as expected by everyone, Thay Beo, TikTokers and Huong Giang had a memorable season of fighting in the biggest beauty contest on the planet.
With the ability to harmonize academics and creativity, teaching and entertainment, knowledge and life, Mr. Beo U40 has become a new model for the young generation of lecturers: modern, integrated, versatile and inspirational.
From lively lectures, humorous yet knowledgeable TikTok videos, to projects that bring Vietnamese culture to the world, Thay Beo's journey is proof that one can live a passionate life - as long as they put in enough effort and always keep the spirit of spreading within them.
