A horrific fire broke out on a luxury cruise ship in Ha Long Bay, putting 41 lives in imminent danger. In this life-or-death moment, the race against the flames at sea created haunting footage of the desperate struggle for survival.
A raging fire engulfed the ship in the middle of a vacation.
At approximately 5 PM on February 27th, as the sun was setting over the tranquil waters of Ha Long Bay, the Signature QN-7269 tourist boat, while taking visitors to the area near Co Cave, suddenly encountered a problem. Thick black smoke began to rise from the ship's compartments, quickly engulfing the entire space, shocking the dozens of people on board. In an instant, a fierce fire erupted, transforming the luxurious vessel into a giant, blazing "torch" amidst the deep blue water.
At the time of the fire, there were a total of 41 people on board, including 30 domestic and international tourists and 11 crew members. Footage from nearby vehicles shows a terrifying scene as flames and smoke billowed high, directly threatening the lives of those trapped. The crackling of burning wood and plastic, along with the intense heat, created a chaotic scene, turning a dream vacation into a real nightmare in just a few short minutes.
Rapid evacuation and timely government intervention.
Facing a life-or-death situation, the captain and crew of the Signature QN-7269 displayed admirable courage. Upon discovering the uncontrollable smoke and fire, an emergency response plan was immediately implemented. The captain promptly ordered an evacuation, instructing all 30 passengers to put on life jackets and transfer to nearby rescue vessels. The seamless coordination between the crew and nearby tourist boats allowed all 41 people to safely leave the "ghost ship" before the fire completely engulfed the cabins.
Immediately after receiving the report, the Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, Bui Van Khang, directly supervised the rescue efforts. Senior provincial leaders, including Vice Chairmen Nguyen Van Cong and Nguyen Thi Hanh, along with representatives from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Foreign Affairs, quickly arrived at the scene. Thanks to the decisive leadership and swift response of the functional forces, the fire was subsequently completely brought under control. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and all passengers were ensured stable health and psychological well-being after the terrifying experience.
A wake-up call and efforts to mitigate the consequences.
Although fortunately there were no casualties, the Signature QN-7269 vessel suffered extensive damage, reduced to a bare metal frame, after the devastating fire in Ha Long Bay. That same night, the leaders of Quang Ninh province organized visits to provide maximum support in terms of medical care and other benefits to the 41 passengers and crew members affected by the disaster.
The police are currently actively investigating the cause of the fire. This incident serves as a costly warning about fire safety for tourism transport companies and affirms the quick and responsive spirit of local rescue forces in emergency situations at sea.
