The 1990s are considered a glorious period for Vietnamese cải lương (traditional opera), where many talented artists shone brightly and created a strong appeal to the public.
Among them, Meritorious Artist Vu Linh, along with his two co-stars Tai Linh and Ngoc Huyen, contributed to shaping a golden era, with plays that audiences always eagerly awaited whenever they were announced.
Following in the footsteps of veteran artists like Le Thuy and Minh Vuong, the next generation, including Vu Linh, Tai Linh, Ngoc Huyen, and Kim Tu Long, quickly became new icons of Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera). They not only helped the stage continue to develop but also propelled their individual careers to the pinnacle of fame. Many popular plays at the time often featured this quartet, creating a rare "box office guarantee."
Beyond their stage performances, these artists also participated in the booming wave of video recordings in the mid-1990s. Products like "Mưa bụi" (Dusty Rain) became unforgettable memories for the 80s generation, as the music discs were passed around throughout rural areas. The appearances of Tài Linh, Vũ Linh, Ngọc Huyền, and Kim Tử Long in these programs further spread their fame.
Among his co-stars, Ngoc Huyen and Tai Linh are always mentioned as special "pieces" closely associated with Vu Linh. Regardless of the stage, they maintained their chemistry, contributing to many memorable works. However, after more than three decades, the lives of these two female artists have undergone significant changes.
Ngoc Huyen, whose full name is Vu Ha Ngoc Huyen, was born in 1970 and was once one of the prominent figures in Vietnamese Cai Luong (traditional opera). Currently, she lives in the United States and enjoys a comfortable and stable life. Despite residing abroad, the artist maintains her artistic activities by frequently traveling between the US and Vietnam for performances, game shows, and business ventures.
In April 2026, Ngoc Huyen had the opportunity to return to Vietnam for more than two weeks for work and performances. During this trip, she visited the Artists' Temple, the resting place of many great names in the theater world, to light incense and pay respects to her predecessors. The female artist also said that since 2003, she has contributed a large sum of money to build a road leading to this area, demonstrating her commitment to the profession and gratitude to the previous generation.
Besides maintaining her career, Ngoc Huyen also enjoys a happy family life. According to her friends, she is enjoying a peaceful and fulfilling life in the US, while still maintaining close ties with her homeland through regular artistic activities.
In contrast to Ngoc Huyen's dynamic image, artist Tai Linh chose a more private life. She moved to the United States in the early 2000s and gradually withdrew from artistic activities and entertainment events.
Tài Linh, whose real name is Huỳnh Thị Phụ Nhuận, was born in 1956 in Ho Chi Minh City and was once the "queen of music albums." During her peak, she released many musical products and participated in a series of famous cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) plays, gaining widespread popularity among audiences.
However, after settling abroad, the female artist lived a secluded life, rarely appearing in public. According to Ngoc Huyen, Tai Linh currently has a fulfilling family life, with many children and grandchildren, and has become a grandmother. This partly explains her choice to step away from the spotlight to focus on her private life.
Despite their different choices, both Ngoc Huyen and Tai Linh were once key figures in the golden age of Vietnamese Cai Luong (traditional opera). Their current lives reflect different paths taken after the spotlight faded, with one continuing her artistic career and the other finding peace with her family.
After more than 30 years, audiences still remember them not only for their talent but also for the beautiful memories associated with a glorious era of the stage, where the names of Vu Linh, Tai Linh, and Ngoc Huyen together created an indelible mark.
Vu Linh's niece sparks controversy: despite having a husband and children, she maintains overly intimate relationships with her co-stars.
Thảo Mai13:31:56 22/03/2026The controversy surrounding the excerpt from "The Drum of Me Linh" had not yet subsided when Vu Linh's niece became the center of discussion again due to intimate moments with her co-star on stage, despite having her own family.
