Despite having to sacrifice family happiness, nearly 60 years old still has no biological children, but artist Phuong Dung is still very satisfied with her life.
Quitting the job to follow the call of love, being betrayed to sell broken rice and rolls
Artist Phuong Dung is a familiar face to southern television audiences. She is one of the few elderly artists who are expensive to show today, participating in most of the TV series, sitcoms, gameshow projects in the South...
Phuong Dung was born in 1962, is the oldest sister in a family of 5 sisters. Phuong Dung's father died early, her mother was alone in the business to take care of her 5 children, the eldest was only 13 years old while the whole family had to stay at home to rent.
How much hardship weighed on her mother's shoulders, making Phuong Dung "older than her age", soon knowing to help her mother take care of her younger siblings.
In 1982, Phuong Dung chose to enter the School of Theater and Cinema just because at that time there was a subsidy, students were provided with rice, meat, and other necessities every month. Phuong Dung thinks, being able to go to school and get "paid" will help her mother's economic burden. So Phuong Dung followed the profession from there.
Despite making a mark in the role of Cao Thi in the famous movie "Pham Cong Cuc Hoa" for a while, Phuong Dung's career path was also extremely difficult.
Just graduated from School of Dramatic Arts 2 (now Ho Chi Minh City University of Theater and Cinema), Phuong Dung was fortunate to be recruited into her theater troupe.
Just returned, Phuong Dung was favored by Meritorious Artist Thanh Tri for a heavy role in the play "The Last Storm" and she quickly shone. But just because she loved an artist in the group, Phuong Dung decided to quit her job to live fully with love, despite the objections of many people.
I don't know because people are not good or because Phuong Dung was punished by the Patriarch, but after a while, her love affair was unfinished.
The two broke up, Phuong Dung no longer had the face to return to the group, so she did enough to make a living, from selling broken rice, selling rolls to receiving sewing at home.
When she misses the stage, Phuong Dung takes out her makeup to "make her face", looks at herself in the mirror and then wipes it off when tears roll down her cheeks.
Thought she had broken up with her acting career, but she did not expect to bring her back to the stage. A teacher happened to meet her while selling banh cuon, so she invited the Bong Hong troupe to act and helped her financially.
Then artist Le Vu Cau invited her to perform comedy. The salary is meager, sometimes "forgot to pay" but Phuong Dung still tries to stay with the profession, determined not to give up.
Whoever invites you to whatever role you accept. Big shoulders, small shoulders, more or less sand, she doesn't criticize. As long as I can do a job, I'm happy when I earn "rice". Because of that, Phuong Dung is so busy that her colleagues nicknamed her "Holy dress" show.
Nearly 40 years of work, in addition to the silver medal at the National Professional Drama Festival in 2008 for her role in the play "Boys dance" of the Saigon Drama Theater, Phuong Dung was also voted by the audience as a Comedian by the audience. Most loved at HTV Awards 2009.
It proves that her efforts have been recognized by the audience and colleagues. However, Phuong Dung's private happiness is full of difficulties.
A failed marriage, no children, love your grandchildren like your own children
Phuong Dung burdened her family and her private love story was also very difficult. She admits that she is a person of personality, and those around her rarely see Phuong Dung crying because when she determines what she has done, she accepts the results.
In the love story, Phuong Dung has broken a lot, even without children, but in return she is loved by many viewers who call her mother, just like God compensates for the sacrifices and failures in life. sister's love.
Phuong Dung shared, when she got married, her mother-in-law was very afraid of her because her husband kept bringing her movie discs to play evil roles, beat her children, curse her husband, and curse her mother-in-law for the whole family to see. After watching it, her mother-in-law said: "Is it okay, why do you think it's so fierce?"
Hearing her mother's comment, Phuong Dung's husband did not dare to bring her home to meet the family. Not to mention, people also have prejudices, get married to be an artist, then they change their husbands and change their wives like changing clothes.
Phuong Dung thinks it's just a role, not her real person. Because of that prejudice, she decided to marry her mother-in-law.
Her mother-in-law is now dead, but before she died, she said "I consider Dung to be my last daughter-in-law", which means Phuong Dung has already succeeded. But husband and wife are predestined, come and go, she has to accept, Phuong Dung considers that two people have no debt to each other, so she agrees to everything.
Later, Phuong Dung patched up with a man who also had a family and had children of his own. She is satisfied with her life. She determined that she was old and could not bear children, so she adopted her younger sister's child. She raised her daughter from a young age, so the mother and daughter are very affectionate and love each other.
Being cursed for being too good at acting
Referring to Phuong Dung's impressive roles, it is impossible not to mention the character Cao Thi in the movie Pham Cong Cuc Hoa, a classic work of the 7X and 8X generations in Vietnam.
Also because of this role, artist Phuong Dung was hated by the audience. She recalls: "The audience from children to adults hated me terribly. Back then there was no social network, if there were, I would have been crushed.
I went to my relative's house to play, but the children said "Mrs. Cao Thi is coming" and blocked the road, I did not dare to return. Going to An Dong market to buy vegetarian food, the shop owner looked up, saw that my face was not for sale, she said "so evil, why do vegetarians".
Ten years after the movie was released, once when I was filming a movie, an uncle about 70 years old flew over from afar, patted the back of the pope and said, "This Cao Thi is so evil".
Artist Phuong Dung said, after this role, her career is very favorable, smooth sailing. Many young actors later, also because of admiring the role of Cao Thi, dreamed of one day working with Phuong Dung.
