Phuong Anh: Female MC leading ASEAN Cup 2024, cried when Xuan Son was injured

Phuong Anh attracted attention as the only female MC to comment directly on the matches of the Vietnamese team at the ASEAN Cup 2024. Previously, she also made her mark as the host of the commentary program accompanying EURO 2024.

Sharing about the opportunity to be an MC this time, Phuong Anh said: "For me, this is truly a 'dream stage'. In more than 1 year accompanying V League matches, although it is not a long time, the job of a sports MC has helped me love Vietnamese football more. Being trusted to commentate on the team's matches at the ASEAN Cup 2024 is a great honor and will be an unforgettable memory in my career journey."

The female MC expressed the pressure of commentating on a match at a major tournament with a large fan following. She said that commentating on football for female MCs is more limited than for male MCs, so learning and updating knowledge every day is important.

"I am fortunate to work in a professional sports production environment. As long as I am not afraid to learn, I always receive support and answers from my colleagues at any time to complete my work well.

For me, pressure is necessary to keep my work perfect, especially in television. This tournament is a historical milestone for Vietnamese football, so I put pressure on myself to bring the most complete emotions to the audience," MC Phuong Anh expressed.

On the evening of January 5, the Vietnamese team received a lot of compliments after defeating Thailand, winning the 2024 ASEAN Cup championship. Social networks were filled with the joyful atmosphere of fans across the country.

Sharing the joy with the Vietnamese team, Phuong Anh - the female MC who commented live on the team's matches at the ASEAN Cup 2024 - also shared: "This is a final match with too many emotions for Vietnamese fans, from joy with the opening goal in the first minutes for the Vietnamese team, then regret with the equalizer, worry to tears when Xuan Son was injured and had to leave the field, anger with Thailand's controversial goal, and finally an explosion of emotions when witnessing the brave victory of our warriors.

The biggest regret for me and everyone is Nguyen Xuan Son's injury. Sitting in the production room, when I saw him leave the field, I was worried and couldn't hold back my tears. Son had an explosive first tournament in the national team jersey. I hope he recovers soon, returns to his best form and continues to contribute to the fans."

Phuong Anh was born in 1998, used to be a Dancesport athlete in Hanoi and achieved many remarkable achievements. Currently, she participates in VTV programs and news such as: Hello new week, S Vietnam, Street food, Digital flow... and regularly accompanies sports news, especially football on TV360, National Defense Television. Phuong Anh impressed and received positive feedback from the audience when she commented on the EURO 2024 season in June.

She once answered an interview about her chance to become a sports MC: "Since I was a child, I have had a passion for hosting programs. When I was in high school, I had the opportunity to collaborate with the Television Station through programs such as: S-Vietnam, Street Food (VTV3), The Story of the Lambs, Rainbow Land (VTV7), Entertainment Hour (VTC3)...

After that, I took 3 years off from university to focus on studying and competing. When everything was stable, I felt that my passion for hosting was still very strong and I decided to come back. The first program I took on was about sports. I think this is fate, the profession chose me.

Sharing about the opportunity to host the Euro news, Phuong Anh confided: "Starting from sports news, I got to know more about my seniors and teachers in the profession and was trusted with the opportunity to host live commentary programs before the V.League football matches.

I got acquainted with the work of script editing and started to know how to make sports programs more professionally. A completely new field for me. Perhaps this also helped me gain the trust to take on the role of Host (main presenter) in the commentary programs accompanying Euro 2024."

Some people also think that football MCs are only suitable for men. In response to this, Phuong Anh said: In my opinion, there is no pressure to "overcome the shadow of the seniors". As a female football watcher, let's show a woman's perspective on football.

That is what creates the highlight and uniqueness for each program. Learning from my seniors is what I have been, am and will continue to do to always improve my knowledge of football in particular, how to do the job in general and to improve myself every day.
