Le Hoang's film Tra: 3 times of censorship, the Cinema Department cut 70% of sensitive scenes

After 7 years of not making movies, Le Hoang returned to the Tet film race with a film with the theme of adultery - Tea. Recently, the male director shared some information with the press about the behind-the-scenes of the film, especially the censorship process.

When asked about his return, the male director said "I'm not going anywhere to return".

"It's normal for a director to take months, years, even decades to make a movie. Taking a long break doesn't mean coming back, it simply means other people have reasons for not making movies, both objective and personal. subjective," the director said.

Participating in the Tet film race with the theme of adultery appearing a lot in cinema and television throughout 2023, director Le Hoang said it was normal.

"I admit that the third-person theme is exploited a lot. But rest assured, the script I wrote is not easy to guess. Le Hoang makes a film so that others can guess, I would rather die," the director said.

Tra revolves around a love triangle between a young girl working at a dance hall named Tra (played by Doan Trinh), first wife Viet Huong and her adulterous husband Truong Minh Quoc Thai.

According to the trailer released by the producer, Viet Huong appears as a woman who lost her temper and became formidable because her husband had an affair. Main actors Doan Trinh and Truong Minh Quoc Thai have bold adult scenes with an uncle-niece love story.

The first time she acted in a movie, Doan Trinh said she had difficulty participating in a movie with many sensitive scenes. "I had no experience. When I read the script, I didn't expect there to be a sensitive scene. I was surprised when I left the studio and was asked by the director to film a sex scene," Doan Trinh said.

The female lead of Le Hoang's film said she had absolutely no idea what to do, but luckily she had Truong Minh Quoc Thai to guide her.

"Mr. Thai taught me many things, asking me to act as naturally as possible, applying things from life. I was lucky to have him guide me in this scene," she added.

Director Le Hoang affirmed that Tra's original had sensitive scenes that made viewers pale. During the test screening for the film distribution company, viewers were "dumbfounded", silent and left without giving feedback.

"Some people even advised me not to have any hope in this movie. When Tra was approved, many people didn't even believe it. Before that, the distributor also didn't accept my movie because of 'shock' after seeing the original," Le Hoang said.

The director of Dancing Girl said Tra's censorship process was very difficult. "My movie went through three censorships, some scenes were cut from 3 minutes to 1 minute, up to 70%. One minute of adult scenes is very long, unlike one minute of normal scenes," he said.

Le Hoang admitted that his Tet movie was sensitive. The Cinema Department cut a lot but they were all reasonable.

Explaining the violently sensitive scene that made viewers pale and completely shocked, director Le Hoang said this scene was necessary to push the plot and climax of the movie Tra.

When asked the question that the topic of adultery is not new or even outdated, director Le Hoang said that although his Tet movie has content about a third person, the script is completely unpredictable.

Director Female Bandit said he anticipated that the audience would judge Le Hoang for making a small film with sensitive scenes.

"Small movies are flooded with television, movies, there are even works being recorded, but that's not important, what matters is how we tell them. I can't reveal the movies, that would be boastful. But I guarantee that when watching my movie, no one in the audience can guess the script," the male director affirmed.
