Phap Kieu before the Vietnamese Rap competition
Phap Kieu's real name is Nguyen Thanh Phap, born in 2001. Before being noticed at Rap Viet, Phap Kieu was a 'hot TikToker' that attracted many views with funny clips, impressive 'rap shots'..
According to Phap Kieu, his previous job was to shoot videos and develop content on social networks. He leads a busy life and feels lucky to be loved by everyone for his sense of humor.
"People contact and schedule a lot of advertising and video shoots. So much so that I spend more time sleeping in the bus than at home. I haven't come to this job for too long, maybe about two months, but my income is quite good. Thanks to that, I have an investment to comfortably participate in Rap Viet", Phap Kieu shared.
The chance for Phap Kieu to come to rap was when the contestant listened to Nicki Minaj's products. Later, when Rap Viet aired and partly brought rap to light, Phap Kieu began to pay attention to rap in Vietnam, especially the products of HIEUTHHUHAI, Suboi. That is the foundation for Phap Kieu to love and want to try this field.
Talking about how to make music, Phap Kieu said that when he meets a favorite rap, he listens to it many times to absorb the melody and cultivate and learn more from that rap. In addition, the repertoire in Rap Viet season 1 taught contestants how to write rap and how to put content into rap. From there, he began to practice rapping.
"I think rap music has no strings attached. What we see, feel and learn from life, just put it into the songs," Phap Kieu said.
When asked about the message and image she wanted to bring to Rap Viet, Phap Kieu shared: "I want to be an LGBT contestant who dares to stand up and step out of prejudice. I want to break my comfort zone to be free. I want to show my own personality, but not a color that will change according to the theme of the show."
Previously, Phap Kieu expressed her desire to come to Rap Viet to change her life. The contestant admitted that he came here to look for opportunities to become famous, enter the entertainment world and have a higher income.
However, the most important goal for Phap Kieu is to break prejudice. "I hear people say LGBT can't rap. I'm really sad when I hear this, so I have to go to Rap Viet to prove to everyone that it's wrong," he emphasized.
If anyone follows Phap Kieu, he will know that he has repeatedly publicized his special love for HIEUTHHUHAI. It is known that the reason Phap Kieu loves HIEUTHHUHAI is the talent as well as the musical products of his seniors. According to Phap Kieu, HIEUTHHUHAI was one of the first rappers in Vietnam that inspired him to practice writing rap.
"I've also seen him sing outside many times. Backstage at Rap Viet, when I got in closer contact, I was quite happy and had absolute respect for him," the contestant confided.
However, Phap Kieu affirmed that he did not come to Rap Viet to get closer to HIEUTHUHAI. The main goal of the contestant is to step out of her comfort zone and progress to become known as a rapper.
Behind the successful performance in Rap Viet
Sharing with Tri Online, Phap Kieu said that the test in the first round was prepared by candidates in 3 days. Contestants did not feel pressure during the preparation process but had difficulty because they had to revise the beat many times.
When reviewing the performance on television, Phap Kieu was satisfied and proud of what she had performed. About being selected by 4 coaches and 98% of votes from the audience, Phap Kieu was very surprised and happy.
"When I was rehearsing and rehearsing the stage, I was still a little shaken, but after hearing the comments from everyone in the crew, I regained my composure. I don't even think that when I went on stage, I was self-conscious. I believe that the performance is much different from the practice time. I think I should not be timid, but should be strong and confident on stage because I belong to the LGBT community. Luckily, I did that. ", Phap Kieu shared.
After Phap Kieu's performance was broadcast, the contestants received many compliments. However, there are also arguments stemming from the fact that he belongs to the LGBT community. On the stage of Rap Viet, Phap Kieu also has a quite different image from what the audience originally envisioned about the Underground world, which is the pit and dust.
Phap Kieu admits he reads negative comments about himself, but not too many. Candidates also anticipate this problem, so they are not surprised, sad or too concerned. He believes that everything has two sides, so it is easy to accept.
In addition, Phap Kieu acknowledged the pressure of the audience's expectations. In the first episode of the show, BigDaddy even commented that Phap Kieu has a noble mission because he is a pioneer.
"I was also pressured because I knew that through the first round, people expected a lot from me. Therefore, in the following rounds, I need to try harder to deserve the title of pioneer. I don't know where I'll go. but only know how to do the best they can to not disappoint everyone's expectations," the contestant said.
Phap Kieu added that from the time he went to casting until now, he had no expectations or predictions about which round he would go to. He just focused on completing the exam and trying. He explained: "I'm afraid to predict and expect too much, when things don't go as planned, I will be very sad and disappointed in myself. Therefore, I just let everything go naturally."
When asked about the most difficult thing in the process of self-study and rap, Phap Kieu shared that from childhood until he followed Rap Viet season 1, he had never been exposed to Vietnamese rap music.
"The musical sensibility and the concept of rap was like a blank page to me. By the time the show aired, I thought it was interesting, so I decided to enter this field by feeling, not knowing it. I didn't even know it. I understand all the concepts and slang words in the rap world. The second difficulty is that where I live, I'm the only one who plays rap.So sometimes when I need help, I don't know who to turn to. Luckily, later on, I met a few people who played rap online and was taught and explained to by everyone," Phap Kieu said about the first days of contact with rap.
