Diddy remains behind bars after his brazen court appearance. This is the first public hearing in Diddy's shocking case. No images from the trial have been released to the media.
Diddy's mother, Janice Combs, and six of the rapper's seven children, Quincy Brown, Justin Combs, Christian "King" Combs, Chance Combs and twins Jessie and D'Lila Combs, were booed as they exited the car. The crowd outside also pressed the twins, Jessie and D'Lila, to defend their mother's controversial memoir.
While his family faced the angry crowd, Diddy appeared calmer as he entered the courtroom through a side door in a brown prison jumpsuit. According to The New York Post, the tycoon smiled and waved to his son King, who was sitting in the second row, blowing kisses to other family members before hugging each of his lawyers.
During the hearing, Judge Arun Subramanian set Diddy's trial for May 5, 2025.
Diddy is accused of forcing men and women to engage in physical contact over several days at wild parties known as "freak offs." He also faces charges of battery, threats of violence, and secretly filming videos to force victims to endure more physical abuse.
Prosecutor Emily Johnson told the judge further charges could be filed, noting that "the investigation is still ongoing."
Her office is turning over evidence to Combsâ attorneys on an ongoing basis, Johnson said, adding that federal authorities seized 96 âelectronic devicesâ during raids on his homes in Los Angeles and Miami in March.
Diddy's attorney, Marc Agnifilo, then asked a judge to bar Homeland Security agents from releasing details of the case to the media. The day before, the attorney accused the federal government of leaking a shocking video of Diddy "physically assaulting" his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a hotel hallway.
In court, Mr. Agnifilo condemned the government's move to leak information that not only tainted the jury pool, but also deprived Diddy of his right to a fair trial.
The federal government immediately responded in a statement sent to the judge on the afternoon of October 10: "We are concerned about Mr. Agnifilo's statement. He baselessly accused the government of conducting a racially discriminatory prosecution."
Prosecutor Johnson also criticized Diddy's lawyer's baseless attempt to dismiss damning evidence.
Johnson supported the ban after accusing Agnifilo of giving an interview to TMZ that led to the federal government targeting Sean Combs for being black.
Justice Subramanian said the two sides should try to negotiate the terms of the speech ban.
The judge also asked Agnifilo about Diddyâs detention conditions at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York. Diddy is reportedly being held separately from ordinary criminals and sharing a cell with cryptocurrency criminal Sam Bankman-Fried. The attorney responded that the prison has been responsive to Diddyâs needs.
Diddy pleaded not guilty at the end of the hearing. The defendant remains behind bars while awaiting trial, despite surrendering his passport, selling his private jet and mortgaging his $48 million home to secure bail.
Outside court, Agnifilo told reporters Diddy was "excited" about being in prison but had difficulty adjusting to meals.
The lawyer added that his client was allowed to remain in the courtroom to talk to his family for a while. Police forced the public and reporters to leave to make way for the meeting, which The New York Post noted was unusual for other defendants.
Diddy is scheduled for another hearing on December 18.
