Almost all of Ho Kieng's life was sacrificed for the sake of art, he also sacrificed his family's happiness. He was married four times, had four children, but at the end of his life he was alone. Two children have died, the other two have settled down, but he is not with him.

His first wife married when he was 18 years old, had a daughter together, but died prematurely; then his young wife also left him for a wealthy sheriff. In 1954, he gathered to the North and knew a Thanh Hoa girl and in turn gave birth to two children, but unfortunately one of the children fell ill and died. When he returned to his hometown to ask his parents to accept his daughter-in-law, he took his wife and children to the south to live temporarily, his wife knew and followed a gold seller in the city.

The two divorced and when he went to Cao Bang to film the movie "Xa Nu Forest" and had an accident during filming, he met a Tay nurse who was a single mother. After many years of treatment, when he recovered, he sent a thank-you letter to the old nurse, but she misunderstood that he wanted to ask her daughter to be his wife. Although he tried to explain, she still left Mai Khanh - her daughter's name - to him, to avoid the market because in the dormitory, he rented a house for the girl. A few months later, when Mai Khanh was pregnant, her mother came to visit and urged Ho Kieng to go to Cao Bang for a wedding ceremony. He found an excuse to delay, but then the mother took the girl back to her hometown and married someone else, not long after Mai Khanh gave birth to a daughter for him. The two met once when a girl came to see him when he was 17 years old.

His last marriage was also difficult, his fourth wife preferred to live abroad, so he advised her to marry a suitable foreigner to settle down. In 1992, they divorced when the woman found the man she wanted, but when she was allowed to leave the country, she was abandoned and returned to Ho Kieng.
