The most famous violinist in Vietnam - Bui Cong Duy, is the most influential artistic monument in this field in the world. Achievements everyone must admire.
Bui Cong Duy has been a young talent of Vietnamese music with many major international awards, including the first prize of the Tchaikovsky Contest for young people in 1997. A graduate student of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory (Russia), Bui Cong Duy is the first foreigner to become a member of the world-renowned Virtouse Moscow string orchestra.
He and his wife, pianist Trinh Huong (daughter of musician Phu Quang) returned to Vietnam to work when their careers abroad were rapidly accelerating. The couple taught together at the Vietnam National Academy of Music and performed major concerts. Bui Cong Duy currently holds a doctorate. As deputy director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music in 2017, he is the youngest deputy director in the school's nearly 70-year history.
Recently, Bui Cong Duy was also awarded the title of honorary professor of Kazakhstan National University of Arts. ASS. Dr. Le Anh Tuan, director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, talked about the good news for Bui Cong Duy in particular and for Vietnamese classical music in general. The honorary professorship at Kazakhstan National University of Arts for Bui Cong Duy was approved for appointment by the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan's National University of Arts held a ceremony to award him a degree on April 26.
Before Bui Cong Duy, this music school with a history of 25 years in a country inheriting the rich musical tradition of the former Soviet Union only awarded professorships in violin to a few outstanding pedagogues and artists. It is the world violin legend Victor Tretyakov - the gold medalist of the prestigious Tchaikovksy competition in 1966, or Eduard Grach - the winner of the Tchaikovksy Prize in 1962, Edward Schmieder - the famous American pedagogue ...
Since 2016, Bui Cong Duy has been repeatedly invited by Kazakhstan National University of Arts to be a jury member in international violin competitions, while also teaching masterclasses and performing solos with the Kazakhstan National Symphony Orchestra.
Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music Le Anh Tuan said Kazakh music inherited the quintessence of Soviet music, so it has a very high musical level, a rich and unique musical tradition. Therefore, being awarded the rank of honorary professor by Kazakhstan National University of Arts is a great honor for Bui Cong Duy and for the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
Welcoming the good news this time, from Kazakhstan, artist Bui Cong Duy said this was really a surprise for him. He felt very honored and proud to stand next to such a "giant" as GS. Dr. Alexander Sokolov, director of the Tchaikovksy Conservatory, former Minister of Culture and Communications of the Russian Federation, also received an honorary doctorate of science from Kazakhstan State University of Arts.
"I honestly dare not think about this, in the past some of the world's violin pedagogues and legends that I admire so much have been awarded honorary professorships here and I don't think that one day I will be able to stand in this position." Bui Cong Duy said.
Revealing about his upcoming work as an honorary professor of Kazakhstan National University of Arts, Bui Cong Duy said he will continue to teach and perform for the school; and is expected to chair the National Graduation Examination Board for intermediate, undergraduate, and graduate violin practitioners in Kazakhstan.
Bui Cong Duy has won many prizes at World and Vietnamese Music Competitions such as First Prize at Zakhar Bron International Violin Competition in Novosibirsk, Russia (1995), First Prize at Demidov International Violin Competition in Ekaterinburg, Russia (1993), First Prize at Vietnam National Competition named "Autumn" in Hanoi (1990). Besides, he is also a member of the jury at many prestigious Music Competitions such as the International Music Competition for Young Artists named after Tchaikovsky in Astana (Kazakhstan) in 2017 and in Moscow in 2014, the VI International Violin Competition in Kazakhstan in 2016, The Demidov International Violin Competition in Ekaterinburg in 2009, the Vietnam National Music Competition named "Autumn" in Hanoi in 2007. Every year, Bui Cong Duy is invited to teach, teach Masterclass and perform at prestigious Music Festivals in Europe such as Switzerland and the US.
He has toured Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Macedonia, Poland, England, Croatia, Russia, Denmark, Norway, Malaysia, the Philippines, China, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam. He is a soloist in many prestigious and important concerts and music events such as "Symphony Concert in Berlin" with Berliner Symphoniker Orchestra, Special Opening Concert for IPU32 in Hanoi, Special Concert for Apec 2017 in Vietnam, Special concert during the welcome ceremony of the President of Russia, the President of South Korea, the tour program "Good New Year" with the Trondheim Solisten Orchestra.
Critically acclaimed for his elegant yet passionate performance style and outstanding technical virtuosity, Bui Cong Duy, a violinist who won the First Prize and Gold Medal at the 3rd International Music Competition named "Tchaikovsky" for young artists in 1997 in Saint - Peterbourg, has developed his career as an international soloist and music pedagogue.
Currently, Dr. Bui Cong Duy is the Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, in charge of performance activities. He has been the Artistic Director of Vietnam Classical Players and Vietnam Connection Music Festival since 2015. Duy along with his pianist wife Dr. Nguyen Trinh Huong and son Alex are residing in Hanoi.
