Miss Grand 2024: Second runner-up threw away the crown, couldn't walk, accused Nawat of being a traitor

Although the final night of Miss Grand International 2024 has officially ended, the noise surrounding the contest is still growing. When the Miss Grand Myanmar organizers showed dissatisfaction because they only achieved 2nd runner-up. They even threw away the crown and sash.

The Miss Grand International final on the evening of October 25 in Thailand was filled with controversy, especially when the Myanmar team was not satisfied with the result of their representative finishing second runner-up. A series of videos of Soe Min Tun - Miss Grand Myanmar's national director - angrily yelling at the audience caused controversy.

After stopping before the representatives of India and the Philippines, the representative of Myanmar clearly showed her dissatisfaction. While the contestants were taking photos to celebrate the Indian beauty's coronation, Thae Su Nyein stood there sobbing. Soe Min Tun - Miss Grand Myanmar's national director - angrily walked towards the stage, took off Thae Su Nyein's crown and sash of the second runner-up and threw it away. The representative of Myanmar was then helped backstage in a state of uncontrollable emotions. The second runner-up also did not stay to interact with the media.

Thae Su Nyein's situation looked extremely miserable, she could barely walk, and had to be helped inside by two or three people. She screamed and cried uncontrollably because she was so disappointed with the result. Even after her sash and crown were thrown away, Thae Su Nyein did not care at all, she walked barefoot and went backstage.

When Mr. Soe Min Tun escorted the Myanmar representative out, he clearly showed his anger towards the media. The national director of Miss Grand International even yelled at the audience who was filming the video. Mr. Soe Min Tun also expressed his anger on social media when he posted the status "Bye Forever", implying his dissatisfaction with the results of Miss Grand International 2024.

Immediately, the national director of Miss Grand Myanmar also went on livestream to clarify the entire unfairness of Nawat and the Miss Grand International Organizing Committee for the Myanmar representative. According to this person, Myanmar was voted the highest for Best National Costume but they did not make it into the top 3 for this category. In the Country's Power of the Year award, Myanmar was voted the highest but Thailand was the winner.

The national director of Miss Grand Myanmar also accused Mr. Nawat of Miss Popular Vote, saying that if their wives gave $25,000, they would win the prize, because Indonesia offered this amount. Giving cash to vote directly was also acceptable and they borrowed money from friends to give Mr. Nawat, but in the end Indonesia won. Myanmar said that Mr. Nawat was unfair. This contest is not peaceful, it cannot prevent war. The Miss Grand International contest is only a business.

The incident caused a stir on social media. Many viewers believed that the Miss Grand Myanmar team had behaved inappropriately in the international arena. The Miss Grand Philippines team also immediately posted on social media to express their views on the incident.

"To Myanmar fans, Miss Grand Myanmar national director and Thae Su Nyein, you must accept defeat gracefully. We also had three first runners-up in 2016, 2020 and 2024 but we always show gratitude," the Miss Grand Philippines team wrote.

Early in the morning of October 26, Mr. Soe Min Tun made a confusing move. On the social network Threads, the National Director of Miss Grand Myanmar wrote: "I'm calm now, shall we continue to sign the contract?" (implying the continued extension of the copyright to send Myanmar's representative to Miss Grand International).

In the comments section, the audience was divided into factions. International fans criticized Soe Min Tun for being impulsive, affecting the image of the contest. Myanmar audiences thought that the president of Miss Grand International was unfair. "We should not send people to this contest anymore, there is no such thing as fairness", "Myanmar should give up the contest"... Myanmar audiences commented.
