An iconic promotional campaign, expected to elevate the group's status, has instead become a trigger for outrage among the fan community (Blinks) due to the absence of member Lisa.
A project to promote cultural heritage.
On February 26th, YG Entertainment officially confirmed a large-scale collaboration between BLACKPINK, the National Museum of Korea, and Spotify. This is an exclusive series of events, allowing a select number of lucky fans to listen to the entire DEADLINE album in advance. The highlight of the campaign is the fusion of modern music and traditional historical values, aiming to promote Korean culture to the world.
According to the plan, the project includes releasing audio guides for eight representative artifacts at the museum, created by the four members themselves. The voice commentary will be uploaded to Spotify in both Korean and English versions, promising to attract a large international audience.
Lisa's controversial shortcomings
Immediately after the list of commentators was released, fans quickly noticed Lisa's puzzling absence. According to previous announcements, the Thai idol was tasked with introducing the historical sites in both English and Thai. This was a key element in helping the project reach a wider Southeast Asian market and global audience.
The production company later stated that Lisa's recording was scheduled for release in March. However, this explanation only fueled the fire. A wave of outrage erupted on social media forums, with many questioning why a group-wide promotional campaign lacked a synchronized release schedule for its content.
"Why were the other three members present but Lisa's schedule was postponed? Is this unprofessionalism or unfair treatment?" – An angry fan shared on X (Twitter).
Pressure mounts as the crucial moment approaches.
The situation didn't stop at ordinary questions. A segment of overly enthusiastic fans even questioned internal rifts, and calls emerged for Lisa to leave the group to seek justice. This seriously affected the morale of the fan community right before the album release.
To date, both YG Entertainment and the National Museum of Korea have remained silent, with no official explanation for the delay. This silence only fuels suspicion and overshadows the efforts made to prepare for the album DEADLINE.
This isn't the first time BLACKPINK has been embroiled in controversies related to their media strategy and resource allocation among members. However, the fact that this controversy erupted right before a crucial project like DEADLINE will undoubtedly present a difficult challenge for the management team.
The album DEADLINE is facing a double pressure: it must both meet expectations for explosive global commercial success and soothe the rifts within the fan community. Without timely media crisis management, the project's impact could be significantly diminished by unanswered questions.
