After more than 2 years with Fossil Vietnam, Ms. Trang left the company and joined Facebook.
The "golden" girl - Le Diep Kieu Trang
Le Diep Kieu Trang (also known as Christy Le) was born in 1980 in Ho Chi Minh City. HCM. She is the daughter of Mr. Le Van Tri, former Deputy General Director of the Southern Rubber Industry Joint Stock Company (Casumina - CSM). Her brother is Le Tri Thong, former Deputy General Director of Dong A Bank and currently Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company ( PNJ). Her husband is Sony Vu (Vu Xuan Son), co-founder and CEO of the company Misfit Wearables.
Many generations of 8X friends in Ho Chi Minh City have known Trang as a shining girl since childhood when the representative of Vietnam sang with Michael Jackson. In 9th grade, Kieu Trang got a C degree in English and was privileged to attend university at the English department of Nguyen Tat Thanh University. She is the valedictorian of admission to Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, and also the valedictorian who graduated from grade 12 of the school.
After graduating from high school with excellence from Le Hong Phong School for the Gifted in 1998, she received a 2-year pre-university scholarship (A-Level) in the UK.
After completing A-Level with high scores, Kieu Trang received a scholarship to Oxford University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics and administration within 3 years. She received a PhD scholarship but she did not pursue it and decided to join McKinsey Financial Group, office in Boston with financial advisor position.
After getting married, Trang moved to the US and received a Legatum Scholarship for a master's degree in business administration from MIT.
Committed to starting a business with her husband - Sonny Vu
This girl shared about her decision to start a technology industry that was not in her original plan that:
"I don't have the entrepreneurial spirit early. When I first started with Misfit, I was still very passionate about learning more experience at McKinsey, where I enjoyed the working environment in the consulting industry. At that time, my husband was my husband. I am encouraged to hire some engineers in Vietnam to work remotely for Misfit, because I believe they are very good."
According to Kieu Trang, at this time her husband - Sonny Vu is very busy with sales work and does not have the skills to work with the Misfit team in Vietnam. While she is very attached to the team in her hometown. And they were the ones who pulled her into Misfit.
Talking more about Misfit, Misfit Wearables is a Startup specializing in wearable devices that monitor health and measure body activity. The company was founded by Sonny Vu and former Apple CEO John Sculley in 2012. This is Sonny Vu's third company. The company wanted to be founded to create wearable devices that both meet technological standards but still have to be beautiful enough, fashionable enough for the wearer to feel proud, wear often.
Currently, Misfit Wearables has two headquarters: a team in the US in charge of product design and hardware, while Vietnamese engineers are responsible for data analysis and motion detection algorithms, control software. . Many Vietnamese doctors from countries such as the UK, the US, and France... who joined Misfit were once classmates of Kieu Trang's in high school, specializing in math.
In 2015, Misfit was sold to Fossil Group for $260 million. After selling the company, Le Diep Kieu Trang held the position of General Director of Fossil Vietnam.
According to Kieu Trang's share, after this deal, Misfit's mission is to continue to develop hi-tech products to support Fossil's fashion products (which own brands such as Burberry, Michael Kors, Kate Spade...). The task of Kieu Trang's team at that time was to build the Fossil Vietnam team to be bigger and attract more good engineers.
In addition, she also shared that this is a blessing because it helps me bond with Vietnam more, as well as being able to bring my one-year-old daughter back to Vietnam so that she can be closer to her grandparents. And this is also an opportunity to help and connect young Vietnamese engineers with the world.
Commenting on this acquisition, Greg McKelvey, Chief Strategy Officer at Fossil Group shared: The combination of Misfit and Fossil will create tremendous growth and its watches or jewelry can become devices. connected.
Fossil currently distributes its products in 150 countries, 26 subsidiaries, 75 independent distributors and 600 stores.
She joined Facebook in March 2018 and was the first person to take on the position of CEO of Facebook Vietnam. This new location is expected to help promote development as well as support local businesses and users.
However, after just over 9 months, Ms. Trang decided to leave Facebook for the reason that she could not arrange family work. According to Ms. Trang, working for this social network has been an interesting journey, learning, building and leading Facebook's business in Vietnam.
"I believe Facebook has been and will help people build communities and bring the world closer. Facebook has really helped businesses become closer to communities and I look forward to seeing more businesses open up. exploit and grow with this platform", Ms. Trang shared on her personal page at the time of leaving Facebook.
In April 2019, Ms. Trang was appointed to the position of General Director of Go-Viet, replacing Mr. Nguyen Vu Duc. Sharing at that time, the businesswoman born in 1980 said that this is an interesting job that is hard to find.
"Seeing the success of the multi-service platform Go-Jek profoundly changing lives in Indonesia, I also look forward to seeing these successes in Vietnam. In the tech world at this moment, it's hard to come by. You can't find a job that's more interesting," Trang said.
On the Go-Jek side, Go-Viet's parent company said that the appointment of Ms. Trang was part of the goal of improving Go-Viet's operational efficiency. Mr. Andrew Lee - Go-Jek's director of international market development said that Ms. Trang is the ideal choice for Go-Viet to maintain the company's growth.
However, after only 5 months of sitting in the "hot seat", Ms. Trang confirmed to the media that she would leave the position of CEO of Go-Viet. The reason given by Go-Viet is that "Mrs. Le Diep Kieu Trang has decided to choose a different direction".
The story of the Facebook Director for the young generation
"Americans are often surprised when many young Vietnamese people idolize Bill Gates because he is rich," Ms. Kieu Trang shared.
Very few people idolize other characters like Mother Teresa or scientist Stephen Hawking... This truly reflects young people's motivation in the dream of getting rich. Although it is not wrong, it is still quite narrow and maybe this inadvertently prevents you from reaching your dream of getting rich.
In Silicon Valley, one thing I learned from a group of successful tech tycoons is to look for startups who are passionate about a technology, a product that will disrupt the market, not those who are passionate about doing business. rich.
Dreams of getting rich are not wrong, but often not strong enough to take them far. On the contrary, the purest dreams for science and technology that change the world like Tesla, Apple... will overcome all limits of imagination, space and time, pushing humanity away. forward.
And of course they ended up being the biggest financial winners, though their financial success at the time still couldn't compare to their contribution to the world.
Some of you will say that the dream of science and technology is too "luxury" and far away for Vietnam. I think that's not true anymore.
The dream of science and technology is the most "flat" dream in the increasingly flat world. Textbooks from MIT, Stanford and other top universities are all publicly available on Open Courseware.
In recent years, Google has recruited from global students, there have been young people who only attended university in Vietnam have the opportunity to work at Google in Mountainview right after graduation. Small companies like Misfit also used to have a visa program to bring talented young Vietnamese people to work in Silicon Valley.
Be more ambitious than the word "get rich"
Technology products are borderless products. The question is whether young people can seize the opportunity by changing their thinking to a global perspective and are willing to work and learn non-stop to compete at a global level. open to you is also open to many other talents from all over the world.
Going back to Vietnam's dream of getting rich, I think it's not wrong but narrow. I think that successful people should not let themselves be poor, but don't encapsulate their dreams in just two words "get rich". Live a life more ambitious than those two words "get rich".
Maybe young people's interests have also changed a lot over time, according to social trends, but I think helping young people believe in success comes from hard work.
Those of you who are "born with things" who want to keep the advantages of the family also have to work hard and endure the same pressure as other businesses.
America got rich thanks to the "American dreams" - the story of empty-handed immigrants with courage and hard work to get rich. Vietnam cannot be rich if young people only admire the flashy characters in the Korean movie The Heirs.
Reviewing a few friends I studied with in Vietnam and later abroad, I have met people who are really gifted in some fields, if they are not brave enough to follow the path of "fighting cocks". ", which is a huge waste for the person himself and for the society as a whole.
Life needs many people with different abilities, each person will sit in a different position and succeed in their own way. So it's important that you be honest with your abilities. Don't let the admiration of others' talents force you to trade a life that is not meant for you.
