Jungkook (BTS) suddenly created a new Instagram account with a strange name, raising suspicions that he is dating Winter (aespa). A series of shocking coincidences caused social media to explode, fans were fiercely divided. Amidst the storm of rumors, HYBE remained absolutely silent.
On July 15, the Kpop fan community exploded when all BTS members simultaneously followed a new Instagram account named @mnijungkook. The account was quickly confirmed to be created by Jungkook himself, making fans extremely curious about the unexpected move while he was in the military.
However, what really surprised netizens was not only Jungkook's return to social media after a period of seclusion, but also the strange name of the account: "mnijungkook". Immediately, the phrase "mni" made netizens think of Kim Minjeong, the real name of Winter (aespa). When combining "Minjeong" and "Jungkook", we get an incredibly coincidental name: "MinJungkook", a perfect couple name.
In addition, fans quickly dug up the history of this account. It was created in January, Winter's birth month. The account was even originally named @imjungkook, similar to Winter's @imwinter, as if by fate on social media. The incident did not stop there. Internet detectives continued to discover a series of shocking details: Jungkook and Winter placed their in-ear headphones in the same place, with almost the same design. In March, Jungkook publicly appeared at an aespa concert, something that had never happened before. In early July, both of them painted their nails exactly the same, responding to the Polished Man campaign, a meaningful campaign but the coincidence down to every detail continued to raise suspicions.
Fans commented: "Once might be a coincidence, twice is a coincidence, but four or five times is clearly something!" After the rumor broke out, Jungkook took the initiative to explain on livestream that "mni" is simply an abbreviation for My Name Is, meaning "My Name Is Jungkook". He denied any suspicions related to dating.
However, this explanation is not convincing enough for many fans. A group of netizens said: "If it's just My Name Is, why not use @mynameisjungkook? Why did you choose the correct spelling that can be combined to form Minjeong?"
As soon as the rumor broke out, Winter's Instagram account was quickly bombarded with thousands of negative comments from BTS's extreme fans - also known as toxic ARMY. They left harsh condemnations, accusing her of relying on Jungkook, being unworthy or even pressuring her to leave the group. This sparked a strong wave of opposition from the online community: "Whether dating or not, pressuring a girl because of rumors is unacceptable behavior."
Jungkook, born in 1997, is the golden maknae of BTS, famous for his pure image and "clean love scandal" for more than a decade of working. He once shared: "I have never had time to date. Work has taken over my life." Meanwhile, Winter (born in 2001), the main vocalist of aespa, has never been rumored to be dating. Coming from a military family, she is known for her professional style, speaking little and always keeping her private life private.
The fact that two famous idols are involved in scandals at the same time is unbelievable to many people. One person was once immune to rumors, the other person was as innocent as a blank sheet of paper, now suddenly became "the hottest couple in Kpop" with just one account name.
This event has divided the online community. One side said: "If they are really dating, it is a good thing. They are a beautiful couple, talented, and both mature. Fans should respect their private lives." The other side was harsh: "This is completely insufficient evidence. Everything is just excessive speculation from the online community."
Up until now, Jungkook and Winter have never directly confirmed or denied their relationship, except for the explanation "mni = my name is". But anyway, this incident has exposed the dark side of Kpop fan culture, when artists' privacy is violated too much and a female idol is harassed just because of... unfounded rumors. Once again, the question is, do celebrities have the right to love like other normal people? And when will Kpop fans truly mature enough to love their idols in a civilized and sober way?
