"Since TikTok US is shutting down in a few hours, I have something to share: I still like the old avatar better. Will we get 7 million followers before we say goodbye to TikTok? Follow me," she wrote.
Within a few hours of posting, Jenny Huynhâs video attracted 1.4 million views and received more than 93,000 likes and 2,300 comments. Most of her followers felt regretful that she could not update new videos. Fans said they would continue to support her content on other platforms.
"Goodbye Jenny Huynh", "Okay, if I can't watch on TikTok, I'll switch to YouTube", "Goodbye TikTok but keep making videos on YouTube"... are comments from netizens. Jenny Huynh (born in 2005, real name Huynh Viet Hoang Vy) is a famous social media star.
The 20-year-old gir.l made her followers proud when she received a notice of direct admission to Stanford University (USA) in 2023.
During her time in school, Jenny Huynh regularly shared many vlogs to share with her followers the differences between life in the US and Vietnam. With TikTok banned in the US, many followers in Vietnam expressed regret at no longer being able to see the content she created on the world's largest short video platform.
In its latest announcement to all users in the US, TikTok said the platform will officially stop working from January 19. However, the company said it is "working to restore the service as soon as possible".
Accordingly, when January 19 (US time, around noon January 19 Vietnam time), the application will be inaccessible in this country. The decision to temporarily suspend operations was issued after ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, failed to comply with US laws, including transferring the application or being banned nationwide.
Although ByteDance has repeatedly denied and affirmed that US user data is stored on Oracle servers in the US, the US government is still not satisfied with these protections.
The US Congress has been pressuring ByteDance to sell its US operations to a company that is completely unrelated to China. However, when a deal was not reached by the deadline, the US government took the drastic step of imposing an outright ban.
The ban has caused chaos among users and creators in the US. TikTok is not only an entertainment app but also a major source of income for millions of content creators and small businesses. Before the ban, many users had moved to alternative platforms such as Insta.gram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Facebook.
Notably, some users have turned to RedNote, a new Chinese social media platform, a move seen as a way to express opposition to US government policies, even though it does not guarantee security and privacy.
In an interview with NBC News on January 18, 2025, Mr. Trump said he would âmost likelyâ extend TikTokâs 90-day ban. âI think itâs an option that needs to be strongly considered. Itâs a very strong possibility,â Mr. Trump said in the interview.
Trumpâs extension could allow TikTok to return to the U.S. as early as January 20, 2025, for at least 90 days. However, the appâs future remains uncertain, as Trump was a supporter of the TikTok ban during his first term.
