These idols have been involved in some of the most horrific bullying incidents the industry has ever seen.
1. Hwayoung (T-ara)
Former T-ara member Hwayoung once accused herself of being severely bullied by other members, with a list of "evidence" spreading and causing a huge controversy about the once-popular idol group. The whole problem started in 2012, when Hwayoung was unable to attend T-ara's concert in Japan due to injury.
Due to a series of misunderstandings and misinformation, Hyomin as well as other members posted on social media indirect messages alluding to Hwayoung and her "lack of will". Later, Hwayoung was seen crying outside Music Bank's waiting room talking on the phone, which is why the rumor of Hwayoung being bullied started.
Since then, netizens have gathered "evidence" of Hwayoung being bullied, such as being forced to eat rice cakes by Eunjung, being poked in the eye by Hyomin, being ignored by Jiyeon or Boram damaging her umbrella.
Although T-ara tried to explain everything, everyone was too busy criticizing. Hwayoung also didn't make any statements until Eunjung dropped out of a drama due to controversy. She then explained that everything was just a misunderstanding and that she wasn't being bullied. In the end, Hwayoung left T-ara not long after this shocking scandal.
2. Somi
Somi cried during an interview on Sixteen, when she talked about being teased for her looks. Somi, whose father is Canadian and mother is Korean, confessed that those around her made fun of her because she looked different from other Korean students. However, the female singer also revealed that she bravely overcame that bullying.
3. Holland
Holland was bullied at school due to the fact that he was gay. When he realized his sexual orientation in middle school, he confided in one of his best friends after a long reflection. However, the friend he trusted leaked the secret and he was bullied for the next 3 years.
He was even afraid to enter the cafeteria during lunch because he was worried that he might run into bullies. People he thought were friends also entered the classroom where Holland was alone and assaulted him. They then tied a rope around his neck and dragged him around the schoolyard, while the other students laughed.
He even tried to commit suicide, but after a real friend gave him courage by saying, "Your existence is not wrong", he decided to give himself another chance and fight over. Holland shared her story and experience through the song "Neverland".
4. Som Hein
Som Hein - an Idol School contestant has been accused of bullying an acquaintance of hers in middle school. The victim posted on social media the detailed story of what happened. Som Hein apparently took the victim to a karaoke room, beat her with a microphone, made her kneel on the floor and spit, stepped on her with high heels, and teased her about her appearance.
The reason for the bullying was because she thought the victim spoke badly of her friend. The victim has posted a series of evidence proving that, in fact, Som Hein is responsible for what she is being accused of.
Som Hein issued an official apology for his behavior and explained his deep regret for it. According to this female rookie, she also left the show "Idol School" after the first episode due to struggling with anorexia.
5. #SHARP
Two #SHARP members Seo Jiyoung and Lee Jihye were involved in a bullying scandal that led to the group's disbandment in 2002. The #SHARP group was founded by the family of Seo Jiyoung - one of the wealthiest people in the industry. at the time and she was clearly unhappy about Lee Jihye being added to the group.
Seo Jiyoung bullied Lee Jihye during their promotions together and even invited her mother and her boyfriend (then Ryu Si Won) to participate. The group eventually disbanded in 2002, during which Seo Jiyoung allegedly tried to pay the manager to lie during the press conference. The manager revealed everything in the dramatic press conference.
