Jamaican media reported that Mr. Stephan Merkens - son of Miss World 1963 Carole Joan Crawford - said she passed away on December 18, at the age of 81.
Julia Morley, President of Miss World, expressed her sadness: "Carole was a lovely woman who left a positive mark on her country and the world. I would like to send my deepest condolences to her family and friends, as well as the people of Jamaica."
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness paid tribute to Crawford, saying the former Miss World's "legacy is one of resilience and inspiration, reminding us that greatness knows no boundaries." "While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her incredible contributions to the global recognition of Jamaica," Holness said.
Dahila Harris - the reigning Miss World Jamaica titleholder - said Crawford's victory marked a milestone for the presence of women of colour in beauty pageants.

Carole Joan Crawford was born in 1943 in Kingston, Jamaica, and was crowned Miss World 1963 in London at the age of 20, becoming the first Jamaican or Caribbean woman to win the Miss World title.
Standing just under 5 feet tall, Carole Joan Crawford broke conventional beauty standards, proving that elegance and charm transcend physical expectations.

When the PNP won the December 2011 election, Lisa Hanna was appointed Jamaica's Minister of Culture and Youth, serving from 2012 to 2016.
