The incident of dozens of children being abused by nannies at the Hoa Hong shelter (address L52 To Ky street, Trung My Tay ward, district 12, Ho Chi Minh City) has caused public outrage in recent days.

Regarding the incident, Giap Thi Song Huong, the legal representative of Hoa Hong Shelter, and a number of staff members were detained to clarify the signs of violations. On September 5, District 12 Police continued to take statements from these people, and at the same time searched for a nanny who directly committed wrongdoings with children at Hoa Hong Shelter. District 12 People's Committee has decided to suspend the operation and revoke the license of this facility.

Notably, before these acts were exposed, Ms. Giap Thi Song Huong, owner of the Hoa Hong shelter, had many times brought "tears" to the hearts of donors and benefactors when sharing her life story, about the times she took in abandoned babies or her journey to help pregnant mothers in difficulty.

On social networks, Ms. Huong also created pages, groups and YouTube channels to call for sponsors, financial donations and items. The official fanpage of the Hoa Hong shelter on Facebook is called "Hoa Hong shelter District 12 HCM" with 74,000 followers and the YouTube channel "Hoa Hong shelter Official" with more than 22,000 subscribers, regularly posting pictures of orphans at the shelter to ask for support to Ms. Huong's account.

Mrs. Giap Thi Song Huong is no longer a strange name to many people. Participating in several television programs, this person claimed that she had taken care of hundreds of abandoned children, homeless people, lonely elderly people... Using her last name Giap to name the children at birth, Mrs. Huong became the "mother" of hundreds of children who were not related by b.lood or flesh.

In the program "Inspiring Stories", Ms. Huong once made the commentators of the Miss Grand 2022 contest admire and be moved by her powerful inspirational story of taking care of hundreds of orphans.

Ms. Huong once said in the program: "For 34 years now, I have been doing charity work silently. I don't go to the community and I don't know how to use Facebook. I just think that I have to make a lot of m.oney and do a lot of work to have m.oney to raise my children. I do a lot of business, I drive a motorbike taxi and I also work as a housekeeper. Now, the pandemic is difficult, so I have to accept help from the community."

After these programs, Ms. Huong was hailed by the online community as a "living Buddha" in the world. Therefore, the Hoa Hong shelter is always crowded with benefactors visiting and helping. However, Ms. Huong still continuously posts information about the lack of funds to ensure a better life for her "children".

When asked by the MC: "When you grow up, will you be filial to your mother?", Mrs. Huong replied: "For me, self-esteem is very high. The richer and more prestigious your children are, the less often your mother comes to visit. If your children give me m.oney, I accept it, but only recently, not before."

Ms. Huong's story about her journey of adopting and caring for orphans abandoned by their relatives moved the panel of commentators and Miss Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien to tears. Some members also joined h.ands to help the Hoa Hong shelter to have more expenses to take care of the children.

Or in a report by Vinh Long Television, Ms. Huong shared: "I picked up the first g.irl at the garbage dump. At that time, I was only 17 years old, working as a scrap collector. With nothing but my bare h.ands, no m.oney, no house or relatives in Saigon, at that time I only thought of keeping the b.aby and waiting for her parents and family to come and return her. But I waited forever and the family did not return, so since that year I have been raising two abandoned children."

In the report recorded at the orphanage, Mrs. Huong continuously showed her care and love for the children. The children also clung to Mrs. Huong when she held and petted them.

"This is b.aby D. By chance, I was renting land to grow vegetables when I heard a b.aby crying in the grass. At that time, the b.aby had just been abandoned, but because he was left outside, his body was purple and his breathing was weak. Today, the b.aby is healthy, cute and smart," Ms. Huong shared.

Ms. Huong said that because she did not want to be a burden to her poor uncle, she left Dong Nai to go to Ho Chi Minh City to find a job but could not find one, so she had to wander around collecting scrap metal and sleeping in a cemetery at night for a whole year.

After that, Mrs. Huong also saved some m.oney to rent a shabby room for herself. This was also the time when she started to adopt children. Mrs. Huong said that she picked up the abandoned b.aby from the garbage dump and raised it, loving it like her own c.hild.

To earn m.oney to take care of her children, Ms. Huong said she did many jobs to make a living, such as collecting scrap metal and selling all kinds of small items on the sidewalk. After that, with capital, Ms. Huong opened a sidewalk drinking place that operated all night. Business was going well, so she expanded her business to hotels, restaurants, etc. From here, she began to have the opportunity to adopt abandoned children.

Also in an interview with the press, the owner of the Hoa Hong shelter said she sold her villa and private car to raise funds to maintain charity activities, especially the care and feeding of nearly 100 abandoned children at the shelter.

Appearing on the show "Deeds of Kindness", Ms. Huong shared: "For this job, I never stop. I continue to do it until I am weak. Many people say I am crazy for not getting married and having children and instead embracing suffering. But for me, this job is very enjoyable and happy because at this age I can still hold my grandchildren."
