A wave of backlash is erupting within the global ARMY community as many BTS fans express their dissatisfaction with the excessively high concert ticket prices, along with numerous questions about the lack of transparency in the ticketing process.
The recently announced world tour by BTS has immediately become the focus of attention on social media platforms. This is not only due to the grand scale and unparalleled appeal of the top K-pop group, but also because the controversy surrounding concert ticket prices is causing a fierce debate among fans worldwide. Even before the official shows begin, fan reactions have been intense, placing HYBE and BigHit Music at the center of a storm of criticism.
Previously, in the South Korean market, HYBE faced much criticism when they announced ticket prices that were considered higher than the average. However, the controversy did not stop domestically. When the tour expanded to other countries, many international fans reported encountering more serious problems, especially in the ticket purchasing process.
Mexico City is currently the most controversial stop on the tour. According to the ARMY community, within minutes of ticket sales opening, a large number of tickets flooded resale platforms. What angered many was the skyrocketing prices. Tickets that originally cost only a few hundred USD (approximately 7-10 million VND) were quickly resold for thousands of USD, potentially reaching 50-100 million VND, or even higher. Even the cheapest seats were being pushed up to prices far beyond the reach of most fans.
Furthermore, many fans reported that tickets had appeared on the black market even before the official release. This raised questions about how these tickets were purchased and whether there were any loopholes in the distribution system. On social media, numerous posts indicated that only a very small percentage of local fans were able to purchase tickets during the pre-sale through Weverse, even though all concerts quickly sold out.
Meanwhile, Ticketmaster claims the ticketing process showed no signs of irregularities. However, the actual experience of buyers tells a completely different story. The system frequently reported errors, users were kicked out of the queue, and many seats appeared available but payment could not be completed. Compared to other stops on the tour, the ticket sale in Mexico City was considered "suspicious from the start."
The situation has left many fans feeling frustrated and unfairly treated. Many believe that buying BTS concert tickets now relies too heavily on luck, rather than a transparent queuing system or priority privileges from official membership cards. Some fans shared that they waited for hours, even days, to get tickets, only to end up empty-handed, while tickets were widely available on resale sites at exorbitant prices.
Amidst the growing wave of protests, the global ARMY community is collectively calling on BigHit Music and HYBE to promptly investigate the ticket sales process. Fans hope the company will take stronger measures to prevent speculation and black market ticket sales – a familiar "nightmare" for major global tours.
