Thanh knew his wife when they both studied at the Hanoi High School for the Gifted Sports and Physical Education. "I liked her first, but didn't dare to confess," he said.

Hang pursued aerobics, but in 2012 retired and transferred to Hanoi National University of Education. Since then, the two have lost contact. Later, Hang graduated from school and became an information technology teacher.

In 2018, Thanh accidentally knew Hang's house next to a brother's house with the TDCC team. He was determined not to miss this opportunity, quickly made friends on Facebook and texted "silly acquaintances": "Hi, can I get to know you?".
