The movie "Going in the Bright Sky" is causing a fever on the screen and social networks recently, directed by young director Do Thanh Son. A person who lives with a passion for filmmaking has overcome difficulties, and set foot on success, breaking all doubts about young people's films.
Director Do Thanh Son, born on July 26, 1985. He graduated from the Faculty of Animation Design at the University of Theatre and Cinema. At the same time, he graduated from the Film Directing Department at the University of Theatre and Cinema. Before becoming famous with the film Di gioi troi ruc ro, Thanh Son participated in the position of director of the TV series Tieng noi ben phai, photojournalist, fashion photographer at Kenh14.vn. In addition, in 2013, he was also in charge of producing MVs and live music shows for Do Bao. Although he was quite young at that time, director Do Thanh Son has made many marks in the 7th art. Currently, his job is Director of Saa Media and Production Joint Stock Company (Saa Productions).
Sharing the reason for choosing directing as a career path, Thanh Son said: "Talking more about myself is really difficult for me. However, for films, perhaps it is in my "blood" when I started studying at the Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema. My family is inherently an artistic family, from my father, mother, and younger brother all studied at the film school, so I have loved beautiful frames since I was little.
When I was a child, I used to practice making a movie projector using a flashlight to project onto small cloth screens and tell stories through animation. When I grew up, I loved movies even more and liked to tell stories with the true emotions that I felt from life and the people around me. I was determined to take the exam in the major that I loved - Film Directing and pursue it to fulfill my love for life and people."
Perhaps it is because of the different stories and emotions each time he makes a film. In each film, he "magically" creates new levels, with his own messages that he realizes in the process of searching and discovering it.
In addition, during the process of building his own film production company, he encountered many difficulties. First of all, Thanh Son came from an artistic background, so with the business, everything was extremely complicated, he had to manage tax work and financial reports. But the deeper he got into the entertainment industry, the more interested Thanh Son found himself, and the more determined he was to pursue it to the end.
In the past 3-4 years, it is no longer strange to see young people gradually appearing in the film industry in many different positions. New actors, new cameramen, new directors. All have contributed significantly to changing the face of cinema and the country's art. And one of Thanh Son's first films was "And I will return", which was released in theaters with fanfare, causing a stir because it was so good and beautiful.
The film's plot is inspired by love stories between foreign boys and beautiful ethnic girls. The film's story is gentle and pure. Not to mention the scenes filmed in Moc Chau have brought all the wild and splendid beauty of the Northwest mountains and forests to the big screen. That is to say, the film attracts audiences not only because of its content, but also because of its picturesque shots. For that reason, the film received the Best Film award at the Vietnam Film Festival. Too much success for a young film from the inside out.
Up to now, the film "Going in the Bright Sky" directed by him is causing a fever when after 9 episodes it has reached the top 1 most watched TV series with a rating of 4.95. Thanh Son said he is very happy because the film has touched the emotions of a large audience, from the elderly to children. Especially, there is a generation of GenZ audiences - the generation that is causing a lot of controversy about the gap with previous generations, who have loved, sympathized and spread the film to more people through digital platforms.
The main characters of the film "Walking in the Bright Sky" were entrusted to Ha Thu Ceri and Long Vu - both young faces who had previously only played supporting roles. Because he saw the passion for the profession, right during the film's open casting process, of Ceri Thu Ha and Long Vu, he did not hesitate to "take the risk".
From the moment they were assigned the roles, to the first scenes and up to now, both Thu Ha Ceri and Long Vu have put a lot of effort and investment into their roles. They both researched their characters carefully and prepared for them very well.
In particular, to play the role of Pu, Ceri Thu Ha had to learn how to go to the forest, use a knife, cut bananas, and herd buffalo. Long Vu had less pressure but had to practice dancing and singing a lot.
On set, at first, Thanh Son said, "I forced the two of you to film a lot of takes (a scene that may have to be acted out and filmed many times), until I felt: "That's right! That's Pu! That's Chai! That's a couple tied together by heaven" then I stopped. So perhaps, Ceri Thu Ha and Long Vu also "hated" me many times. But when the film aired, the affection that the majority of the audience had for the couple Pu and Chai was the exact answer to my wishes. And the efforts of the two of you were probably rewarded."
The film revolves around the love story of Pu - a Dao girl with a will to progress, determined to study but has a difficult family situation and Chai - a young master in the richest family in the village. The harmonious combination of the main actors and the new supporting cast attracted great attention for Di Giua Troi Ruc Ro. The work unexpectedly became a phenomenon on social networks, attracting an increasing number of viewers with each episode.
However, before that, when organizing the casting for the movie "Going to the Sun", director Thanh Son encountered many problems when he eliminated a child actor. After the scandal of a girl having to undergo psychological treatment, the family said that the film crew kept changing plans at the last minute, making the girl feel ashamed in front of her friends and suffering from severe psychological shock. The TV Drama Production Center, Vietnam Television (VFC) later issued a document clarifying the incident, specifically stating that "During the casting process, there was an unwanted misunderstanding between the family of Ms. Phung Bich Dan (the child actor's mother) and the film crew".
Accordingly, on May 16, the casting staff of the film crew informed Ms. Phung Bich Dan that the girl could be chosen. However, after consideration, director Do Thanh Son decided to choose another actress who was more suitable for the character and script."
In this document, VFC also affirmed that changing candidates for characters in the film is completely normal. Director Do Thanh Son apologized and shared his feelings with the family. On the morning of June 28, responding to the noise about the actor's elimination, director Do Thanh Son affirmed that the family had agreed to meet with the representative of the producer SK Connect, so he did not comment further.
